after trade deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>You're the only one constantly crying about every Marino-Boeser trade. There's literally one made by a Pens fan on the first page.</div></div>
Think about this logically for a moment.
1) Could the Pens use a top six/middle six upgrade? Sure. Do they desperately need one? No.
2) The Pens are a playoff team
3) The Pens are a top ten defensive team in the NHL and Marino is a major part of that. He's our #2 RHD after Letang and after him it's Chad Ruhwedel and Mark Friedman, so moving Marino now makes Chad Ruhwedel our #2 RHD meaning if Letang goes down, Chad Ruhwedel is now our #1 RHD. Do you see how that could potentially be a problem for a playoff-bound team?
Looking at that logic, regardless of how much scoring someone like Miller or Boeser may bring, do you understand the terrible ripple effect moving Marino would have on our team? How bad our defense instantly becomes?
I don't care if a hundred Pens fans trade Marino on here, that doesn't make it the right thing to do. A little critical thinking goes a very long way.

Canucks TDL and off-season
Just my thoughts, but:
-Pittsburgh simply can't afford to move Marino. Miller would be a solid add, but that's a massive hole to dig on the right side, that would be filled by Chad Friggin' Ruhwedel. Digging a hole to fill a hole rarely makes sense.
-NYR can't afford Boeser's QO. Would be fun to see him there, but it doesn't work.
-"Meh", don't really think Calgary needs Hamonic.
-Halak would be a good add for Florida, but I feel like that bonus really kicks them in their cap strapped nuts next year.

Canucks TDL and off-season
The logic keeps escaping VAN fans when it comes to Marino. It's not that deals like these aren't fair in terms of value, but it makes the Pens MUCH worse defensively. While I think Ruhwedel is grossly underrated, he's not a 2nd pairing dman and DEFINITELY not the next guy you want up if Letang gets injured, so no matter what these trades look like, losing Marino hurts more than we gain.

Next Year If Letang Leaves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>Yes 3.5 million is massively overpaying him and I’d be willing to bet the pens don’t sign him for even close to that much. If he had kept up his pace, then sure, but the last 2 months he’s come crashing back down to earth. And ok 6 million is minimum what he will take. Which my offer is more than that. He gets 6 million plus a NMC. Again I highly doubt he will go to a rebuilder for more. No other contender has yet cap space to offer him 6, let alone more. The only other place I could see him going is Detroit.
This past off season he had a 7+ million cap hit. The pens had no room to take him on…even for free. Even with 50% retention they couldn’t take him on for free. If he were to come sign a league min or even 1 million per year contract to finish is career as the pens backup, I don’t see how management doesn’t jump all over that.</div></div>
Took the words right out of my mouth. MAF for free?? Lol.. 7.5M contract. They couldnt even fit 3.75M under their cap this season.
We were so up against the cap. Remember this offseason..?? Could barely resign ZAR. They fought to save 250K with him. He wanted 2M per. And had to wait to the very end to sign Boyle and D.Simon too.
How quickly fans forget how tough this offseason was..lol. And how up against the cap they were.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>edeangel84</b></div><div>This front office has no attachment to MAF. If they wanted him they could have had him for nothing this offseason. I’m also worried that if he comes back and Jarry has a few bad games that Jarry could crumble knowing a Pens legend is here. I’d rather just give a slight raise to Desmith</div></div>
I disagree. They didn’t want the 7.5M contract. They couldn’t have had him for nothing?? They couldn’t fit his contract this season even at 50% retention.
They will resign him as an UFA though. Probably 2M-3M for 2-3 seasons. He’s the best back-up they could possible get. And Sully, Burke, Hextall all have been wanting a back-up with play-off experience. And MAF would want to come here.
And 3.5M for E-Rod is crazy. Same with 4.25M for Subban.
Erod will sign for 1.5M-2M per 2 seasons. 2.25M for 2 years(5M contract at most).

trading one of our goalie prospects
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pensfan89</b></div><div>I’d say the Dallas trade is good, the Seattle trade is unnecessary. Soucy is a LD and Sully really only does the Lefty-righty pairings unless injuries force his hand. And being Friedman plays both sides and is really solid I’d think ZAR would be more valuable to the pens being our most physical forward and player honestly.
I think if you switched the ducks trade to Blomqvist and Kapanen, maybe even added a mid-late pick or Legare to the deal might get it done for both sides.
Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-Malkin-Rakell
Heinen-Carter-ERod
ZAR-Blueger-McGinn
That’s a really dangerous playoff lineup. Maybe they can get a another middle 6 winger somewhere in there too</div></div>
Just now we realize how important zucker is, he’s willing to go into the dirty areas and is a hard forechecker, which opens up space for geno. I love that top + reuniting that 4th line. My only question is if erod can regain some of his production and if Carter can pitch in on offence plus serve as a solid defensive line. If they’re firing on all cylinders and jarry can be who he’s been, i see good things coming

Murray has been thrown to the wolves the last 2 years with a lot of Mete, Del Zotto, Zaitsev. The defence has looked a lot better lately

It's behind a paywall. This is the relevant text...
"Penguins get Phil Kessel (ARI retains 50 percent). Coyotes get Alex Nylander and a 2023 second-round pick. — Shawn O.
Kessel has been rumored in trades pretty much since the season began. He’s putting up reasonable numbers for Arizona but the question is how much of a market will there be for the 34-year-old?
Exec: Penguins say no, almost zero percent chance you get a second-round pick for Phil Kessel. The Coyotes have offered him around for a third-round pick while retaining 50 percent and haven’t gotten a buyer yet."
