Kevin Weekes says Tanev 5M AAV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Saskleaf</b></div><div>Holy crap man calm down. What evidence do we have Bert wanted to stay? Yes there were reports but everyone says that. He probably has no intention of taking a pay cut to stick around.
And yah I wanted Marner traded too, but if he isn’t gonna waive what can you do? The ball is in his court and he wants to stay. Best case he walks in UFA next year.
Also what did you want to do with Lili? Leave him unqualified and walk him for nothing? And 5 mil could be ok for Tanev depending on the term. If it’s any longer than 3-4 years that’s really a bad sign, but if it’s like 5x3 I’ll take that</div></div>
Bertuzzi indeed wanted to stay there were multiple reports saying "he wants to stay but understands they need to address other areas" all from reputable sources. Also the Tanev contract is horrible unless they plan on robidas islanding him which i dont think they can. OEL is a third pairing guy we signed for 4 years but whatever, maybe thats just the market. Furthermore if Marner doesnt do well in the playoffs this year its goodbye i would honestly let him walk in FA. He had one great playoffs and that was when they went to the second round. This year the dude had 3 points. Bertuzzi had more than him. Lyubushkin had the same amount as him. LYUBUSHKIN.. and boosh was also like a +5 playing first pairing matchups. For me marner has never had a clutch moment or take over game (aside from the one series against tampa). Culture change needs to happen forget the stupid corsi stats. Why can edmontons core 5 get it done and drag codi ceci and darnell nurse (who was a -20) to the finals, yet we made it past the first round ONCE. They have a good culture and the leafs dont. Sam reinhart signing for under 9 mil and we are gonna give marner 12+? **** it let him go, go sign konecny, chychrun, and someone else for that money next season. And liljegren my goodness, yes id let the guy walk man. I really hope he makes me eat my words, but i watch him play in the playoffs and it makes me want to rip my skin off the guy is so nervous with the puck hence why he is scratched almost every playoffs. I would let him walk if it meant keeping bertuzzi especially.

Honestly mind boggling and insane this is going on. Fire tre. Actually fire shannahan what the hell. this is all his fault. Why would the leafs hire a guy who *checks notes* ****ed his teammates wife while in the NHL, and then proceeds to marry her (no joke look it up). We were doomed from the get go.

Yeah its absolutely ridiculous. Fire Tre i cant believe it. He let a heart and soul guy WHO WANTED TO STAY in toronto (bertuzzi) leave for.. liljegren?? a guy who gets thrown around every playoffs? teams literally target liljegren in the playoffs. Dump the puck on his side every time. He gets thrown around. I am sick to my stomach. Tanev for 5M.. a giuy whos 34 and has a long history of injury problems. Meanwhile vegas is trading 2 thirds for a solid league min STARTING goalie??? Tampa playing literal ****ing gm mode video game style, trading sergachev for futures, and a third to sign guenztel? Let me put it like this for you. Leafs had 19M in cap space this off season. Pretty decent!! They spent ALMOST HALF of it (8M) on timothy actual lilje**** and chris tanev. We are also keeping marner and kampf. My god how did we get worse?? The only good thing theyve done is domi for 3.75M and thats CAUSE DOMI IS AWESOME AND WANTED TO TAKE A DISCOUNT AND STAY. NOT CAUSE OF TRELIVING HE GETS NO CREDIT. My goodness he is going to ruin this team i cannot believe it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Not worth giving Tanev 6-years to reduce the cap hit by a few 100K or even 1M. His contract will no doubt become an issue sooner rather than later. More than likely, the latest that would happen is by the second half of Matthews' current contract, when results will matter the most. If Matthews re-signs, he's going to be taking probably 15M+ until he's 37/38, so every million will have to be well spent. If he's available, then 4.5Mx2 or 4Mx3 is the most that they should offer in terms of AAV and term.</div></div>
I agree, but for some reason I feel like tanev is going to want something like 6M on a short term deal. Toronto needs the cap room to add a second D and a forward. Toronto can also choose to throw him on Robidas island if it becomes an issue like they always do. We will see July 1st!

This would be ideal, however vegas would have to create cap space on their own (and you have seen what that costs) or send salary back this way to afford marner

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>I think Minten in a 4C role and maybe even 3C could work out, but unrealistic expectations for anything higher, and certainly Cowan as a 2LW is more than optimistic.
Take Knies for example, he didn;t really have an overwhelming first full year production wise on a high powered offense. For example Tyson Foertser played similar minutes and produced slightly more on a team that scored 1 goal less a game, (is doesn;t sound like a lot, but thats 180-200 pts more spread throughout lineup), so while Knies didn;t diasppoint, certainly 40 some pts is probably not as much as expected given the offensive output and allstars he was playing with.
And this isn;t a team "building up to something", thias is an annual regular season contender, that is an annual playoff disappointment, and while lacking a good prospect pool AND a ton of picks, doesn;t have tons of help on the horizon, they are under pressure to improve NOW. (IMO they can improve under a different system, but they need to start building from the net and defense at the expense of their offense).</div></div>
Very true. Im just hoping we can do what dallas has done with Johnston and Stankoven - maybe letting minten develop in the AHL and bringing him up later is the play. Cowan however is not eligible for the AHL so either back to london or he makes the team. I say he makes the team, he has nothing left to prove going back to the OHL.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Its not bad, but you're over the cap and rumour is DOmi wants 4.5mil or more, especially if its 4 yrs or less BUT
Im not sold on 2 goalies that have never played 30 or more games AND two rookies being ready for 2LW and 4C AND its still dependent on moving two older guys making 2.1 and 2.4 WITH NTCs.
Just dont think theres enough cap to make all those moves and then roll with such unreliable goalies</div></div>
You are very correct about the rookie part. Minten played 4 games for us and looked great. I guess you can switch cowan with robertson. I really do believe minten can make it out of camp for real this time. I also really do believe cowan will produce for the leafs this year. He will start out scratched you are right. Also, yes the goalies are kind of unreliable so maybe the sign somebody else than brossoit who is more reliable. FInally, I believe domi would take 4M. Camps always start out asking for more, but if the player really wants to stay there they will take less eventually. Hymans camp wanted 5-5.5M (he got 5.5M) but came out later saying he woulda stayed in toronto for 4.5M, they just didnt offer him that. I think Bertuzzi would take 4.5 as well, maybe even a bit less. They wanna play for the leafs for sure.

That could be very true, but i dont see treliving trading for anybody on that islander team except for dobson, so if there are rumours id assume that it would be surrounding dobson? if it is surrounding pulock i will be very upset unless there is like 3 first round picks involved lol. Islanders have 0 prospects so they wouldnt want to give up first round picks anyways. They have no one else on that roster to add to pulock except pageau or palmeri and even then that is not enough. It must be dobson or nothing imo. and id be okay with one for one but if we can get palmeri in our bottom 6 and as a PKer that would be huge.

Keeping mitch because salary cap is going up like crazy in two-three years
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>I would sooner spend Bertuzzi's money on a defenceman</div></div>
I hear you, but I love bertuzzi. I stand by the statement that you need guys like that on your team when going for the cup. Especially when my roster is keeping a guy like marner. I remember when keefe put Willy - Domi - Bert on a line. Nylander started a scrum after the whistle. I have never seen him do that, until he started playing on that line. We need guys like bert and domi who can bring out our skilled guys. Maybe you can replace him with guys like dakota joshua for a cheaper price but i still have a soft spot for bertuzsi. Ontario boy with a big ole canadian hockey logo tatted on his chest. Plays with heart. Maybe berube gets Marshall to play well in his system. Rifai had 3 goals and an assist in the AHL playoffs this year in 3 games, and looked good in the 2 games he got with the leafs. Throws the body and plays hard. Good cheap option for the bottom pair imo. Furthermore, bertuzzi does not care where he plays. He is a team player. You need guys who dont complain about their role. Guys who are selfless and do whatever it takes and dont complain (which is why i would never ever want a guy like shane wright on my team, no wonder he fell from 1st overall). Cant win with those guys, they stop trying when they dont get what they want. Need guys like bertuzzi, and if he wants to stay here then heck yeah ill give him the money to stay here. Again, if we can replace him with soembody similar at a cheaper price tag then sure. but i hope you see my reasoning lol

Yes. You may be right. But look at edmonton (albeit they are getting walked in the finals) but they have iced darnell nurse, codi ceci, and vinny deharnais. Look at those guys stats individually, they are horrible. Maybe they add a D at the deadline or sign another good one next season. I think they just need some competent defenceman who can buy into a defensive system and they can really compete.

According to cap friendly & other reports, the cap will grow to **at least** 92 million by the beginning of the 25-26 season (about a 5% increase, similar to this year), with belief that the year after that (26-27) the cap will also go up another 5%. Soon enough, an 11 million dollar contract will be a bit more common.
