I would say Trocheck > Strome too. That’s why it makes sense to me as a Devils fan.

Deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Finski</b></div><div>Did he not return?</div></div>
Think he did...but just the fact that his health MAY be an issue is all the reason to steer clear from providing CHI with real good assets in return for Kane's services in 1 shot at the Cup.
If that's not enough, consider this: the bulk of Kane's production has been on the PP...LaF actually has better production than Kane at 5X5- which is where NYR need to improve!
There are MUCH better options than Kane on the market (Meier, Tarasenko) which could help NYR 5X5...yet these guys also would be foolish to pick up because they can't extend either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Masonh618</b></div><div>I swear to god Vincent Trocheck is like the 25th boogeyman for deranged Rangers fans this season.
Over the season they’ve shifted their focuses from Blais to Goodrow to Trouba back to Blais to Halak to Kreider back to Blais back to Trouba to Panarin to Gallant back to Halak back to Goodrow to Carpenter back to Gallant back to Trouba to Trocheck back to Gallant back to Blais back to Trouba back to Gallant to Lafreniere and now back to Trocheck.</div></div>
Lol…in reality the real boogeyman is Jimmy Dolan….the team’s lousy ownership continues to blindly entrust the team’s fortunes in “Good Ole Boy” Glen Sather- who is way out of tune with the NHL in 2023.

As nice a prospect as Jones is, I think we're well past our small offensive LD quota. Unless Army has a way to move Krug if not also Leddy, Robertson and the 2nd would be preferable.

How / why is Knies overrated?
And what team will offer more than that for Meier? Not many b/c it’s already an overpay for a rental; as others have pointed out - no (or very few) contender has room for $9-10 M player next year. A non contender could trade for him but it doesn’t make a ton of sense to give up 3 prime assets if you’re not even a playoff team

Get where you’re going here….but reality is that Boldy- in his small sample size- at over .75 ppl is already becoming a star. Chytil and Kakko are real useful players- both are finding themselves…but their production not at Boldy’s level, and Kakko might never get there. The Boldy contract might actually help NYR extend Chytil with a # they can handle….and LaF is headed to a 2 year 2-2.5M deal, while he continues to try to figure things out

hey, Chytil's already matched his career high in scoring this year! just don't ask how many points that is...
I think that if he keeps up the pace and finishes with 50ish points this year, Chytil can get $5M on his next deal.
Key probably bridges 2-3 years - I'd take the gamble on myself, and the cap going up significantly, while taking a slightly lower salary the next couple years. Say he bridge at 3X$3M and continues progressing to be a 45-50 point LHD, he can easily push for an $8M AAV in 2026 and more or less match the 6x$5.667M you've got him getting up here over the next 6 years, while also getting another 3 or 4 years at $8M AAV.
Bridge Laf for 2 years and try and find a trade, at this point - I don't think he's a bust, but for whatever reason both New York teams are allergic to developing forwards. Laf really got boned by the COVID years screwing with his development, and now I wonder if he's just too inside his own head in New York to make the leap.

Miller would require Edvinsson, possibly Edvinsson+. The only reason he's not already considered the Rangers best Dman is that they have Adam Fox.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tonyhzs</b></div><div>No arguments from me there. The cap situation could be a lot more complicated though, with Lafroniere is in offer sheet territory, and Montreal is not afraid to cap strap the Rangers. If that happens, any team will absolutely prey on whatever the Rangers try to do, to the point that they may wish they took a 1st and Albert Johanssen (who projects to be top 4).
I wouldn't gamble on a bunch of what it's before the deadline...cross the cap situation when it comes.</div></div>
Imo in a worst case scenario, Laf gets offersheeted, but Miller gets signed no matter what. Harder to replace a top 4 d man with top 2 potential than a potential 1st-2nd line winger. We’d still have Othmann who looks like he’s ready to step in next year and play alongside Kakko, Kreider, Panarin, Zibanejad and Trocheck. Our top 6 would still be okay. And that’s not even mentioning someone like Chytil and Goodrow.

Unless you’ve got a top 5 pick in the draft coming back you’re not in the ballpark. This trade doesn’t benefit the Rangers at all. If cap is such an issue Goodrow can be bought out or other moves made then taking a bad deal like the one presented above. I know you’d turn this down if the situation was flipped.

TDL moves
Kane going to NYR is like J.T Miller going to NYR. These so called "experts" they really do get things wrong most of the time.
I think maybe management want Kane in NYR to get the most out of Panarin, but just like J.T there is no realistic way to make it happen, because what Drury would offer wouldn't be enough.
Secondly, I don't think Kane will wave his NMC. He is that disappointed in management that he will not give CHI anything. Not even letting them cash in on his misery.

Resigning Is Hell
AF will probably do a short bridge for slightly less; $2.5M maybe KK's deal.
I'd also argue moving Goodrow is a smart move if he's on the 4th line. Paying $3.6M for a 4th liner is so unusual in the NHL for good reason.
Maybe can get away with less for Chytil as well.

Cap crunch
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>Kind of hard not to use the dach contract as a comp</div></div>
If you're going to use Dach as a comp- then give LaF a 4th year on the contract. This would be great for NYR...but reality is a 2 year deal 2,1-2,5M. And yeah- if negotiations drag into the summer, the possibility of an OS does lurk. With Krieder out right now -for who knows how long- LaF's play in the next stretch might just determine where his next contract goes. Other than that- I think the Chytil contract is light by 1-1,5M, but Gautier will not get 1.7M. Ironically, Gaut could be an OS candidate.
To the cap hell/Goodrow point...anyone who wants to deny the obvious- that the NYR Cap situation is tight as a clam- is just in denial. It's actually a good thing that Miller and Chytil are calling for bigger $, and while LaF hasn't lived up to #1OA, certainly no giving up on him. Goodrow and Lindgren are really the only guys on sizeable contracts who are moveable. Until Robertson (or a player yet to be drafted) takes a step- Lindgren is going nowhere. Goodrow is a valuable bottom 6 player who can play up (temporarily) in a pinch. The way some of the young guys are developing there is less of a need for him to temporarily play in the top 6. That leaves him in the bottom 6- particularly the 4th line- which is fine, but is a luxury (given their Cap construction) which becomes less affordable as others on the team need more $ to stay. At some point, NYR will have to move him...I wonder if the recent Vesey extension portends this. If the values could be worked out both sides, seems BUF would be a good partner for a deal involving Goodrow.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>Easy pass from mtl</div></div>
I don't think its an easy pass, but its not like its a some sort of slam dunk deal for Montreal.
Assuming Montreal's pick isn't in the top 5 (which isn't a safe assumption given their recent play and strength of schedule), Smith might go before then or lower than the 6/7 range.
Organizationally, Montreal really likes Xhekaj and Evans (whether or not that is justified is open to debate). Obviously not to a never trade degree, but enough that they'd have to be really enamoured with the return.
And the truth is, outside of being Quebecois and being drafted by Gorton, Lafreniere isn't the cleanest fit. Montreal's trying to develop Slafkovsky in the same role and Laf's inability to stick on his off-wing (with MSL's tendency to play wingers on their off-wing) makes things challenging. Garand's stock is down given his AHL play and a mid to late 1st is good, but not great.
If the Canadiens aren't picking in the top-4/5 and really like Lafreniere, I can see them doing it. It fits the mold of the Dach deal. I wouldn't do it just because I don't think anybody can really handle the pressure of being Francophone star prospect playing in Montreal (I firmly believe that played a big role in Drouin's decline).
