My dream team come playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlimTJ100</b></div><div>That’s why I said we’ll flip him at the draft. Just get different assets. We have guys blocked anyway, especially on LW</div></div>
I don’t think you’d get much for him considering how expensive he’ll be to resign. Might get a mid round pick at best. Sign and trades aren’t very common.

Even so you pay a little extra for Nyquist for retention and it just may fit. Plus carrying 23 instead of 24 could help. Like these moves a lot.

The numbers work via daily remaining cap hit + the cap space we’ve accumulated. The above can fit at the deadline even after recalling Cuylle

Sharks aren’t retaining that much on Karlsson to just tAke back trouba. This trade has San Jose retaining $4 mil in labanc and $28.75 mil in Karlsson and taking on $32 mil in trouba. That’s $65 million dollars. Come on now

Sharks are not retaining that much of EK65's salary. That trade would be on the low end just for Karlsson.

probably a 3rd pair defenseman but is playing top pair right now with EK65. good size at 6'6 220. just a reliable defensive-defenseman that can provide a bit of physicality.

Optimistic Approach
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Masonh618</b></div><div>I heard this same argument last offseason with Kakko. In addition, I'd accept a 1st and a 3rd in exchange for Lafreniere at $6M. Miller is going to be the priority extension, and I have no worries that it won't be completed before the offer sheet window opens.</div></div>
I don’t know how Miller should be prioritized over Chytil….but that’s not even a discussion worth having because by hook or crook, NYR need to do whatever it takes to get Miller, LaF, and Chytil extended. That said- potential returns on all 3 have to be listened to….and in the case of a 6M OS to LaF, the return 1st and 3rd might just be the best move. But I just don’t see that as realistic, as he is playing to a bridge deal rather than a massive overpay.
The Cap situation as it stands is razor thin (but not impossible) for next year. It really is in Drury’s best interest to get these guys locked ASAP. Should Miller and Chytil continue on this year’s trajectory, they will only get more expensive. If that happens then NYR should have a pecking order of who gets dealt…all on contracts other than minimum or ELC would be on this list. My guess is guys at the top of this list would be Goodrow, Trouba, and Lindgren. Other than Goodrow, any other move is probably going to be real unpopular (Lindgren) or real uncomfortable (Trouba- due to probably salary retention required).

WHY would the Rangers do this? WHY WHY WHY?
Goodrow is the bottom 6 forward they wanted for the playoffs. That's why they went and got him.

NYR cup run while keeping important prospects
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Masonh618</b></div><div>This is actually a good evaluation for both rentals in my opinion, but that prospect is going to be much closer to a Vitali Kravtsov then say a Brennan Othmann, as I previously touched upon</div></div>
I don’t disagree at all. It shouldn’t be expected to have a top end prospect coming back for a rental. However, I’m not fully convinced that Kravstov would be a high enough value prospect at this point to be the headline of a package verse the prospect that is added in.

For what it's worth, I wanted a 1st and Jordan Kyrou in exchange for Chris Kreider back in March 2020 (I know, extremely cringe LOL), so I won't pretend that I'm exempt from the same criticism.</div></div>
Lol idk if I’ve ever had one that bad but I will be real idk much about Othman other than he’s pretty good

Optimistic Approach
Although the threat of an offer sheet is low, the potential to nab either Lafreniere or Miller for pennies on the dollar might change teams’ minds. One way or another, the Rags should have some concerns.

I like it. If the cap is an issue the only thing that should be done is buyout Goodrow. Then once next year hits say goodbye to Trouba and Kreider imo. Need to open up more cap flexibility.

Timo trades that actually fit SJ needs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Masonh618</b></div><div>For money purposes I’d actually think Chytil would be more likely to get moved than Othmann. But to put it into perspective the odds of either getting moved at the deadline are about 1 in 100.</div></div>
Fair enough, that’s why I don’t really see a Timo trade between the two even though they have had rumblings recently. But I’ve also heard Philly thrown out which is odd so who knows.

Particularly when it's invalidated within a few minutes of posting. Nieto is now in Colorado.
As for the Jackets trade, a 2nd for Nyquist is fine, but the rest is noise, and we'd rather have Bemstrom.

Beneficial 3 Way Due to the Injury to Patches
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Masonh618</b></div><div>You had me until the last six words. Absolutely not</div></div>
Point is- his loosey goosey play has hurt them….I get the fact that he’s a unique talent- and a player that the coach needs to let do what he does. But the good teams….the defensively structured teams- have figured out how to defend him- to the point where he’s a non factor at 5x5 versus teams like BOS, MINN, Islanders, etc. And those cross ice passes which result in odd man rushes going the other way are just killers! I’m not giving up on him by any stretch- I mean, the skill and talent is there…but at some point he needs to adjust his game in response to the way opponents’ defenses have adjusted to him. That’s what really good players do!

Only very recently that I'm hearing discontent with Troch because he has been snake bitten....but his game is so much more than goal and point production. There is a lack of chemistry between him and Pan (unlike w/ Strome)...but maybe that's partly up to the $11M man to figure out? And while he's at it...stop the nonsense with the cross ice passes!! The good teams have it figured out how to punish NYR for these turnovers!

Deadline moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Finski</b></div><div>Did he not return?</div></div>
Think he did...but just the fact that his health MAY be an issue is all the reason to steer clear from providing CHI with real good assets in return for Kane's services in 1 shot at the Cup.
If that's not enough, consider this: the bulk of Kane's production has been on the PP...LaF actually has better production than Kane at 5X5- which is where NYR need to improve!
There are MUCH better options than Kane on the market (Meier, Tarasenko) which could help NYR 5X5...yet these guys also would be foolish to pick up because they can't extend either.
