Don't see Detroit doing that. We can buyout Holl if desired.
Toronto definitely is not doing that also Tavares wouldn't waive anyways.

I like the idea of signing Barrie to a low risk deal.</div></div>
I agree, top 6 sucks. But I wanted to upgrade the defense. Perron is a great leader and is hard to play against. Also agree Joshua isn't a top 6 forward either, but he to is tough to play against.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SharkTank</b></div><div>Well if Detroit wants to improve defensively Barrie certainly won't help.
He's a lesser version of Ghost.
I don't know how bad Ghost wants to stay in Detroit?
Other teams know he sucks at defense but they love his points.
I thought Roy was a shoe in for Detroit being a Michigan Boy and knowing their need for a top 4 RD.
But apparently not? 🙄
Maybe Yzerman doesn't want Roy on the payroll for 5-6 years when he knows ASP will be a Red Wing in 2 years?
Let's say Yzerman signs Roy.
And signs Barrie for cheap as you suggest.
Yzerman would have to buyout Petry or trade/waive Johansson and trade Maatta.</div></div>
Run 8 defensemen. He actually mentioned doing that already. I signed Reimer but that could easily be a spare forward.
ASP is staying in Sweden this season. Probably a year in Grand Rapids at least, maybe a bit more. Similar route as Edvinsson I would expect. That's 3 years or so before he's on the team. Deal with Roy at the time, never know what transpires by then. Roy could be a good, overpaid though, third pairing guy by that time. The salaries can be dealt with at the time. I personally would prefer Roy or a similar player to Gost. I get the desire to have a good powerplay quarterback though which is why I brought in Barrie. At this cost, it doesn't matter if Barrie is not good defensively, I want him strictly to PPQB.

If that's the case Detroit will be out on Roy.
They can't afford both.</div></div>
I know, I think it's silly.
He did say that a deal would have to make sense for both sides. Maybe he wants to keep him but for less than he would want on the market?
Barrie can provide the same service. Probably be quite a bit cheaper since he had a down year being behind Josi.

I also see his value between $5,5m - $6m AAV for 5 or 6 years.
The Kings will have a hard time to keep him and unfortunately it's pretty likely that he won't stay in LA.
If he leaves, I would be happy for him, if it's his hometown.</div></div>
I think they can afford to let him go with Clarke and Spence. Might set them back slightly but they can use that cap to improve other areas.

Me too. But I also wouldn't hate for him to be 1C in GR for a bunch of the season and be first call up. One thing Yzerman said in his press conference, he would rather have guys getting a bunch of ice time in Grand Rapids rather than ride the bench and only play 10 minutes a night. He would have to outperform Veleno, Fischer or Berggren.

I watched Ritchie a few games in the playoffs, he didn't impress me very much. Didn't really notice him out there and even playing a very good team, I expected more from what was expected to be a first round talent.
I don't mind the Detroit pick. I'm at a toss up between a bunch of players around that spot. Ideally would love Catton but no way does he get to us.

Without Kane
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SweetRevenge19</b></div><div>How so?
This team should be harder to play against. Why is this bad?</div></div>
Well I really like your Joshua addition. Probably overpaid him by quite a bit though. At least you know he will sign here with that deal. Might hurt is in the future paying a depth guy that much. Either way that style of player is very much needed. Plays with an edge but doesn't take alot of stupid penalties but still not scared to mix it up. Strong defensive play and gives it all. I wouldn't be sad at this dollar amount but don't think it's great value.
Why give Walman away for nothing? Is he the best top pair defenseman? No, but he's the best we got on the left side and you traded him for peanuts.
Then trading Maatta for Broberg and Campbell? Why just why? Maatta is better than Broberg now, although that may change in a few years. But the cap implications are not worth it at all. Just keep Walman and the team would be better with less cap issues.
I can understand Berggren for Barron but rather keep Berggren personally.
Chatfield I don't think it's worth that but I can see the draw. He plays alright in Carolina in a good system and with a good partner.
Bertuzzi ship has sailed. I don't think either side want a reunion.
The Raymond and Seider bridge deals are actually insulting. I can understand the desire to bridge but those are both lowball offers. Probably just piss them both off and drive them to want to test unrestricted free agency more.
I doubt we see that many rookies on the team either.

Berggen is 24 and was barely in the nhl for a non playoff team. Hes a reclamation project not worth much</div></div>

Detroit Gets Their Goalie
The Gibson trade isn't worth it for both teams a stated above. Anaheim can't afford to lose him unless it's worth it for them. They still need him to help insulate and mentor Dostal.
The issues in Detroit isn't totally goaltending, Lyon proved that a bit. The issue is team defense and that is not addressed here. Gibson would still get lit up every night.

Random Thought
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>beantownboy17</b></div><div>I'd toyed around in an ACGM about doing something similar, using Ullmark to basically get a LD2 and a 2nd round pick. In that scenario it was Siegenthaler and a 2nd for Ullmark with a couple other pieces, who is a better fit than Wallman to play with Carlo I think. I don't think it's enough for Boston in this scenario.</div></div>
Seigenthaler and Carlo would be a crazy good defensive pairing. My thought process is New Jersey will likely want to improve, not take a step back. They would be creating a hole to fill another. Their d-core is so young already, I don't think they would want to lose him. I also thought Walman would be a decent partner with Carlo, more offensive type but still good defensively.
I took this scenario as Boston and New Jersey both getting better and Detroit potentially taking a step back which I feel is alright for the team.

Random Thought
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RazorSeider53</b></div><div>Honestly I’m more on board with packaging our 1st for Andersson.</div></div>
Where we pick now, it would depend who's available. We still have alot of organizational holes to fill. A lot of picks didn't pan out or likely aren't going to. We have good LHD depth in the system and that's about it. Unfortunately, it seems that's the easiest spot to draft and fill for almost every team. We don't have any potential first line forwards and even top 6 I'm a bit skeptical. Danielson, Kasper, Mazur and Buchelnikov are the only players I see as potential top 6 forwards and outside of Buch, none of those guys are really skilled offensive producers.
Also, my opinion anyways, I don't think Andersson would be the right target, even though I think he's great. By the time we are good, he will be 30 and making like 8M+. Wouldn't be my first choice but I can see the draw towards wanting to acquire him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Spaceman</b></div><div>Nahhh. Take Silayev. 6'7" good skating D men who are defensive monsters do not come by often. That would solidify them as having the best top 4 in the league for the next decade. Top pair Edvinsson - Seider, 2nd Pair Silayev - Sandin Pellikka.
Can trade other D prospects like Wallinder, Johansson, Buium for skilled forwards.
Although Catton would also be fantastic. I would 100% take him also at #5</div></div>
I really really want to Detroit to move up and grab Catton if he falls to around 10 or so. That said, I would draft Silayev if he was available for the same reasons you mentioned here. Finding skilled forwards is easier than finding defensemen like him.
