So Detroit is paying a 2nd and Berggren to take an extra $100,000 of cap. Why would they do this?

Detroit needs cap space and their moves them in the wrong direction. They would just buyout Holl long before they do this. Smith 32yr old bottom 6 player and most of Detroit's forwards have similar or better. Mayne you can get a 2nd or a good prospect for him from another team, but to Detroit he isn't worth a 2nd or Berggren alone so they sure aren't giving up both.

Summer moves
Not interested in Dvorak or Farrell or a Zegras trade in which the best element is a pick in the last third of the first round.

If you want Zegras, the options are 6OA + Beck, Reinbacher + MTLs 25 2nd, or Slafkovsky straight up.
Any cap dump additions (Dvorak, Armia, Etc) must be paid for separately, and by separately, I mean dumped to another team.
Don't like the price? Fine, we like Zegras, we're happy to keep him.

Nope. Right side is Faber, Spurgeon, Bogosian the next two seasons. No interest in Liljegren, no spot for him.

I really want this to happen and think its fair
Why would St. Louis ever want this to happen? Parayko is one of their alternate captains and signed for <strong>6 more seasons</strong> at less than Nurse's cap hit and less than Ekholm or Bouchard are going to cost if and when you re-sign them. Broberg has a dubious future and Ceci has a dubious past with one season of future left. Rodrigue doesn't appear to be an upgrade on Joel Hofer and the first isn't even this year's. How can you think that this is a fair exchange?

Buying Campbell Out
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>I'm pretty sure it does if they don't have the cap space to cover it this season. Not totally sure how it all works and I bet you might know more than I about it. {<strong>Ha, ha, you bet wrong.</strong>} All I know is if a player that was injured for majority of the season or out for whatever reason signs a contract with a bonus like that, it can carry over to next season if they don't have the cap for this season. I think age is the other factor hence the Bergeron or Krejci bonus overages. So I believe his 3.225M bonus will be carried over, especially if they use that bit of cap space you mentioned earlier to add this season.
All that might make the idea of trading Campbell a bit more enticing over buying him out.
Also I think they need to make a decision on Kulak after this season as his cap hit is a bit high for a third pairing guy, not that he isn't worth it. They really need to try and find bargains this offseason. With their lack of drafted talent, makes it even more difficult.</div></div>
Thanks for alerting me to this issue. One possibility is that the Edmonton GM is smart enough to create enough cap space through a trade or two to swallow the bonus this year. More likely is that the bonus does carry over and thus would of course affect my $12 million + cap space figure. But I think, as I suspect you do too, that the buyout strategy is superior to a disadvantageous trade which would also restrict their ability to make other additions to the roster.
Thanks again for pointing this out! :cheers

Best fit for Hanifin
Devils are a solid maybe for rental Hanifin, but Casey had better not be anywhere near the trade. The cap doesn't work for an extension unless we move Nemec and that's not happening

You have to retain, and Devils arent moving Bahl. IMO the Devs need phyiscal on the back end, someone who can hit and cover for Hughes. I like Zadorov or Tanev before Hanifin.

Best fit for Hanifin
Devils can't afford paying Hanafin to be a 2nd/3rd pair dman long term.
This year:
Hughes-Marino
Siegs-hamilton
Bahl-Rental
Next year same except nemec instead of rental
total cost of under 20 mill for the group
25-26
Hughes-Nemec
Siegs-Hamilton
Bahl-Casey
(bahl for 2.5 mill, hughes for 8)
Total cost 25 mill, marino traded for assets
Same for 26-27.
That should be a quality, cheap Dcore for the next 4 years.
after nemec extension, hamilton+siegs expiry I don't know what it will look like tho.
But adding 7 mill of hanafin onto that+whatever we need to keep either marino or another 3RD isn't something we can afford

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lancebmx</b></div><div>He is technically bigger than Korchinski going by weight lol. I think he's going to be a stud, I haven't got to watch him though. Are they taking their time with him i expect?</div></div>
Yes, so far. Last year, they eased him. At first, they worked him into PK situations and he eventually became their top PK dman. They didn’t get him into power play until very end (final few games) and was still PP2. By playoffs, he was getting too minutes all around. His even-strength scoring surpassed any of the recent teenagers in AHL (including Jiricek) and his defensive metrics were solid. He and Walsh were only blueliners with 60% GF% throughout season.
This year, he starts as top-pair in Utica (AHL) and likely gets a call-up at some point this year, even if it’s for 9 games or less.

Lines
Kasper will centre the top line in GR between Söderblom and Mazur. They're going to tear the league up this year and come up as a unit next season.
Yzerman will file a waiver claim to fill out the last roster spot, there are going to be a few really good finds that way this year.

WHAT EVERY CANADAIN TEAM SHOULD DO JETS EDTION
That is not a good trade for Detroit despite it making them better in the short run.
With the way our RD is looking and the time it takes before our prospects fix that it doesn't help to have three years of Connor. The roster would be unbalanced, both when it comes to positions as well as with timing.
Detroit is going to be good when we get all our prospects up to speed in about three to four years time. Trading our best prospects and picks for players that won't be here when that happens is not a strategy that works.
The best strategy for Detroit is to keep the current strategy of drafting well and filling out the roster with UFAs until such time that we have our long term core in place. That means waiting until ASP, Kasper, Mazur, Edvinsson, Johansson, Danielson, Raymond, Söderblom and the rest of the kids are fully established in the NHL. Only then is it time to start making any major moves.
If we were to make trades like this one now then we would get Connor who would leave (or price himself out) before ASP and Danielson have played a single game and Morrissey would be on the wrong side of 30 (as opposed to Edvinsson being 23 and just getting into his best years). We would also miss out on a 1st round pick for two years. We would be a better team right now but not a good one because the trade doesn't fix our biggest problems and we'd be a much worse team in five years time because of what we gave up.

I'd do it, that's a lot of assets and getting rid of Wheeler would be a massive win in itself, unbelievable they've kept that headache around this long already.
