Nahhh. Take Silayev. 6'7" good skating D men who are defensive monsters do not come by often. That would solidify them as having the best top 4 in the league for the next decade. Top pair Edvinsson - Seider, 2nd Pair Silayev - Sandin Pellikka.

Can trade other D prospects like Wallinder, Johansson, Buium for skilled forwards.

Although Catton would also be fantastic. I would 100% take him also at #5

I really really want to Detroit to move up and grab Catton if he falls to around 10 or so. That said, I would draft Silayev if he was available for the same reasons you mentioned here. Finding skilled forwards is easier than finding defensemen like him.

If they could move up from 15 into the top 10 to grab Silayev or Catton that would be sick. But I think the reality is the price would be too much to move into the top 10.

It would cost the 15th overall + Rasmussen + Berggren. I personally wouldn't be willing to trade that package as Rasmussen has become a very effective player and Berggren is NHL ready now. Catton won't be around for 2+ years. Same as whoever they take at 15th overall. One of Greentree, Iginla, Connelly, Hage, Helenius, Brandsegg Nygard. They're all at least 2+ years away.

That said I would be so completely shocked if Detroit won a lottery pick and moved to #5. It won't happen other than in my dreams. I would not be shocked if Utah wins 1st overall. Headline - "Brand new NHL city that needs to build up a fanbase from scratch is given a future #1C on a silver platter."
