Pittsburgh doesn't do that, Detroit doesn't either. That contract would hinder signing our RFA's which you greatly underpaid.
Anaheim doesn't do that I would expect.

He isn’t Russian so I highly expect him to play in the NHL again but the AHL wasn’t where he needed to develop the last of his game. He is likely a solid 3C but he isn’t the fastest of skaters fyi</div></div>
Mazur is having a really nice pro season. He is developing really well. His play style is something this team is currently missing. He's got chemistry with other prospects like Kasper already. He could be on the team as early as next year, if we got a bunch of injuries again this year he might have got a look. He is someone that I believe is part of the long term future.

Wings without adding new UFAs or trades made
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireLordZuk0</b></div><div>I agree they should try and get them on 7-8yr deals, but if you want to improve this team next season and moving forward, they have to move a player or two via buyout or trade. Ik this goes against some wings fans, but I would 100% start hearing what other orgs would trade to get jake walman. Yes he scores some clutch goals, but he is not a top pair dman, does not tie up players well on the pk, and same with Hronek you want to trade him before he asks for a ridiculous contract and you get something in return outside of what hes done for the org on and off the ice. Then of course you have Petry, Holl, Fabbri, and Husso to name some. Out of all these names, Walman would get the highest return possible outside of cap. This would create room for Edvinsson, Chiarot and Seider top pair seems to be working for now, and the team has gone back2back wins without him in the lineup, and i believe theyve lost only once with walman out of the lineup.
Long rant story short, if we want this team to improve, and sign seider and raymond to those long term high dollar contracts, you gotta move some pieces one way or the other.</div></div>
Chiarot and Seider didn't work well pre-Walman, but I think with Seider improved that it could be viable. I agree Walman isn't the ideal top pair defenseman but right now he's the best we got. If we move him, we take a major step back. I would be waiting until next trade deadline at the earliest to see how Edvinsson does with a full season. If he could step in and fill that hole than for sure. With the term on his contract, we can afford to wait.
As for the contracts, I think it depends where they see this team in the 3-5 year range. If they are willing to sign for 4-5 years and Yzerman sees this team as a true contender in that time frame, then they definitely should. Those contracts would provide huge value at that point. If Yzerman doesn't see this team as a true contender in that time frame, then we should be trying to get long term value contracts signed. Ideally something that, although not quite worth it right now, should provide really good value in 3+ years.
I also feel, with the UFAs they signed and the contracts handed out, that very few of these players would be considered core players and are in the long term plan. The only players I consider to be long term core players for this team, that are currently on the roster, are Larkin, Raymond, Seider, Edvinsson and possibly Debrincat. The rest, including Walman, are short term stop gap fixes until they have internal options ready.
I still feel this team has a long way to go before they are a true contender but improving the team now is obviously important.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FriendlyGhost</b></div><div>At this point, we're looking at Raymond/Debrincat/Rasmussen on wings for sure with Kane and Berggren hopefully re-signed. If we don't re-sign Perron (And Kaplan was reporting that was in the works around the TDL) then a Fabbri trade probably wont happen. Either way, that pretty much accounts for your Top 9 wingers.
It's not really a cap matter, to me. We literally just don't have the room, and if we did, we're better off signing one of the guys expiring (Perron/Sprong) than trading any type of asset for Smith.</div></div>
I agree, rather keep Perron around, if he's cheap enough. Spring, I feel anyways, might have priced himself out of Detroit.

I could definitely see him trying that route but I feel, with the way they keep improving, they should try to lock up to long term deals. I feel 7.7 for Raymond and 8.7 for Seider would be reasonable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FriendlyGhost</b></div><div>CapFriendly's obsession with trading Detroit wingers they don't need will never die.</div></div>
I'm not opposed to taking a chance on Smith but that would very limit our ability to upgrade our defense with Roy or Pesce. If Raymond gets 7.7, Seider 8.7, Kane 6, then sign a solid bottom 6 forward like Joshua, Foegele or Carrier for around 2.5, we don't have enough for the defense upgrade with moving Fabbri. Leaves us about 1M short with a 20 man roster.
I think getting a solid defensive and physical bottom 6 forward is important. Acciari would actually fit that bill but ideally a bit of retention would be nice. He is positive on draws, physical and solid defensively, just getting up there in age for the style of game he plays which would be a bit worrisome.

I think Matt Roy is as good as gone unless he takes a nice discount. Spence and Clarke should be able to cover those spots.

Don't see Detroit going and spending big on a goalie. With that defense infront of him, I don't think Jarry fairs much better.
I don't hate the idea of Smith but rather target other forwards.

Tankathon simulation and offseason Part 1
Meier trade is looking good, Musty looks to be a good player. Next pick is likely a second but that's fine, should be early half of the second round. Would be nice to see Muk become a NHL defenseman. I like Zetterlund as a player, underrated pick up in my opinion.
I didn't like how he traded down in 2022. Bystedt seems to be a high profile prospect, I'm not sold on him but I also haven't seen him play at all. Just seemed to be that they have a long rebuild ahead and there would be lots of time to accrue picks. Also not a big fan of the players picked with the second rounders but again I know very little about them. How good would McGroarty have looked beside Will Smith in the future?
Karlsson trade is a huge win considering the circumstances. Some really good players in the top 15 of this draft. Even if it were to slide to next year, probably a similar outcome.
Namestnikov trades are wins.
Duclair trades are wins. Thompson I think can be a decent player in the future.
Kahkonen trade left something to be desired. Basically turned him into Vanecek and Cooley.
Hertl deal is great for the reasons you listed above.
I like that you bought out Vlasic, now is a good time. Could use that cap to acquire some players from teams looking for cap space to gain more assets. I could see the Sharks having interest in players with lower salary than cap hit like Schmidt, Oshie, Faksab among others.
Future looks good, just going to be awhile before it gets there.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jamnjon</b></div><div>With Pokey a big part of the reason he ended up in Dallas was the 3rd year being pretty much a non-starter for the Sharks for a guy who would be 35 before the season started and Kane will turn 36 about a month into the season next year, has bad injury history, and counts as a 35+ deal (If Pav turned 35 about 1.5 weeks earlier it would've been considered a 35+ deal). I'd be surprised if Kane gets a 3 year offer but I could be wrong.</div></div>
I'm hoping he gets a two year deal, that would be ideal as far as I'm concerned. Less money would also be more ideal but who knows. The guy has made like $100M in his career so might take a bit of a pay cut.

at the beginning of the season I’d say yes but Holl has regressed big time and even if Burroughs does we can bury him in the AHL with no cap implications.
Plus sharks are undoubtedly on his 10 team no trade list (bad team in a high tax bracket)</div></div>
I was thinking with Benning, Emberson, Rutta and Addison, he could be expendable. Holl is basically just a money dump. Good chance on the list, but never know. Really don't speculate too much into those unless they are full no trade clauses.

I don't think Pavelski took a discount to sign his first deal with Dallas. 7M x 3 Years was a pretty decent cap hit for him.
