Marner waives for UTAH
Kings already have their RD sorted with Doughty Spence and Clarke, but I'm sure there are plenty of teams that would take Liljegren for just a 2nd.
Any particular reason why the Leafs want to get rid of a young RD putting up decent numbers? For a team so front loaded on contracts, I would've thought you needed the cheaper, young players helping out. I don't think Tanev can stay healthy enough to be worth 4.5M.

NHL 24 Franchise Sell
Kings pass. Binnington is not good or consistent enough of a goalie to be making 6M, and the Kings would have next to zero cap space to make any other signings. Maybe if he was 50% retained, but even then I'm not sure I'd do that deal. Laferriere is only going to get better, and we need all the value/ELC contracts on the team we can get.

Pass on Jarry. We could probably just sign Nedeljkovic for half the price with less term.

Calculated Risk
I wouldn't say no to that deal for the Kings. Not sure how much value Kaliyev has for Ottawa, but I think for a team that's less defensive, Kaliyev might finally be able to show what he can do. I honestly see 20+ goal potential in him if he can play sheltered 5v5 minutes (away from heavy checking lines) and ample PP time. Wouldnt even be opposed to swap him for Turcotte, or any of our prospects outside Clarke.
The only thing holding us back from making the trade is our cap space. We would 100% have to find a way to move Gavrikov first, cuz we'd have 3 LD capable of playing 20+ minutes, too much money tied up at that point.

Realistic Hope for the Pens
Not a whole lot of interest for the Kings to be trading assets for 3rd line wingers. There are plenty that are hitting free agency that they could probably sign for less, if we even have the space for it after re=signing Byfield, Spence, and a goalie

Same, would rather Roy at this point. Besides, the Kings dont really need to fix the right side of the defense, it's the left side that is lacking. Gavrikov is slightly overpaid for what he brings to the table, and we absolutely cannot go into another season where Englund is featuring in every single game.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>math731</b></div><div>Arent you scared that looking for a bridge deal for Byfield might result in exposing him to potential OS?</div></div>
Not particularly. Anything under 9M AAV and the Kings will match easily. We have the cap space to fill out our roster, but giving Byfield the long term deal just makes it hard to adjust the roster this season only. So we'd have to run it back without Roy and Arvidsson, fill the forward holes with AHL young players (Turcotte, Akil, Sammy, etc) and sign a cheap goalie under 3M.

Am I reading this right. We're giving up Gavrikov, a 1st, and a 2nd for one of the worst contracts in the league, even with the 1.75M retention.
What on earth is this lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>Not far off from what I think will happen, but some small nitpick stuff.
Kaliyev is gone for futures.
LA will definitely get a budget winger with experience with one of our centers: Blake Wheeler or Thomas Tatar have experience with PLD and Danault respectively. The 4th line will need someone like Lewis if they decide to go without Lizzotte.
Kylington is an offensive d-man, Clarke will need a true shutdown paired with him to succeed.
Overall I have a sneaking suspicion Byfield is bridge contracted, so Blake can get another top-6 winger in like Toffoli and some left over cash for a minor upgrade in goal.</div></div>
Agreed about Kaliyev, but the cheap UFA winger in the bottom 6 will likely cost ~1M so I just left it since the numbers roughly cancel out. Would like to see them figure out how to utilize the Kaliyev/****emo type young players at some point..
D pairings can be changed around. Can put one of Gavy or Mikey with Clarke. Can try giving Spence someone with more mobility like Kylington. Someone that can actually keep up with the play. Getting tired of signing "shutdown" Dmen who are just synonymous with pylons, cuz Blake hasnt been able to ID a good one for a while.

I have to laugh at $3.75M making things difficult for you. That’s pretty cheap for a starting goaltender. But if you want to go for fringe starters around $2M, I certainly won’t stop you.</div></div>
That's just the situation we are in, for this upcoming season at least thanks to Rob Blake lol we have a solid enough defense group that we made Talbot and Rittich look like a top 5 tandem in the regular season, so I think the plan is to try and replicate that, just with someone younger. Have Portillo in the shadows maybe ready for the position in 2026

The Kings don't need to add in the Islanders swap. That would be a fine 1-for-1 trade.

Might as well rebrand as the Wild if they were to trade him with retention.

In terms of trade value, the Kings would take it. But have to ask if Gustavsson is the best value goalie they can get. Based on last season, I'm leaning towards no. 3.75M for two more seasons makes it very difficult for the Kings to make any moves to their roster, which needs help. Someone in the 2M range makes more sense. And I'm not sure Minny can/will take any more retention lol

I don't think there's any getting around it. If we're trying to make meaningful additions through trades this offseason, that 1st round pick is going to be flipped.
Turcotte, Kaliyev, etc. and 2nds don't hold much value if you're trying to get top 6F or top 4D.

Agreed. Cap space for a middle 6 forward is gonna be hard to come by, especially if we're trying to upgrade defense or goaltending. But some of the forwards I'd like are on the heavier/physical side while still bringing some decent offense. Guys like Bertuzzi, Debrusk, Mantha etc.

These are some pretty wild trades. I like Bjugstad (wanted him in 2023 before EDM got him and he dominated our bottom 6 in the playoffs), and Jeannot is someone maybe worth taking a flyer on. Hasn't done anything in Tampa, but there were flashes of talent in Nashville.
Don't really need Kakko, Perbix, or Vejmelka and that might be too much to give up on the Kings side for Chychrun, as much as I have always rated him.
I also dont think you're getting Mantha on that contract lol he's 29, had 44 pts in 74 GP. He can easily secure himself a longer-term contract north of 4M AAV.

Revamping the Kings
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>I dont think you're too far off. Your Byfield contract is too low and your Spence is too high, so those cancel each other out. If they both get bridged, I'd expect a total around there.
Can't really see OEL being the answer on the back-end, because I think the Kings have enough puck movers already. In all honesty, I don't see Spence being brought back, but thats mainly going to depend on how high of a priority Roy is to re-sign and how much he wants. I think the Kings are going to be looking for a Tanev-lite defensive guy to partner with Spence or Clarke. Whether they stick with Englund or not remains to be seen.
Ned's possible. Maybe a guy like Brossoit... but I can't see them paying a goalie 2.5mil. Just seems to go against what Blake thinks about goaltending. Cam Talbot and David Rittich were not the problem last year, in either the regular season or playoffs.
I'd be surprised to see Kaliyev back. With no new coach and no new GM to try to give him a better role, I'd be willing to bet he's played his last game in LA. Which is too bad, because a team like Pittsburgh is going to buy low, play him next to Sid or Geno, put him on the power play, and watch him score 25-30.</div></div>
Fair, I think QB/Spence will be just over 8M to re-sign on 3-yr bridge deals. I am concerned about completely relying on the right side for puck movement from the blueline, it becomes very easy/predictable to cut them off and force Mikey/Gavrikov to make plays.. and they're not exactly the best skaters or passers. OEL was just someone to consider, but I think they need more than just a stay-at-home Dman on the left. Maybe even consider moving Gavy down to 3LD and bring in someone in a similar profile to Spence. Unless Roy is taking a huge discount to stay, I don't see him coming back.
Goaltending wasn't a big issue this year, but if we're changing systems like media/everyone around the team is wanting, I'm not sure you can rely on Talbs/Rittich performing at the same level. Might need a younger guy with more mobility. 3.75M on two goaltenders isnt that far off what we spent this season, considering the cap increase.
Kaliyev could very well not be a King anymore. Swap him for any other youngish player needing a change of scenery. We just wont have the cap space to make any real additions to the forward group. it'll have to be someone cheap/ on ELC

Marner Mocks
The Kings (and very likely Danault) say no. Kings need to be adding more value contracts, not subtracting. Danault is probably on one of the more team-friendly (non-ELC) deals after Kempe, wouldnt make sense for the Kings to lose him. And our defense is pretty much going to be built around Clarke in the coming years, cant afford to lose him for a winger, as good as Marner is.

Agreed, thats probably more value than "needed" to move up 4-5 spots after the middle of the order in the draft where its less obvious whose actually gonna make it in the NHL. I thought RHP had better stats tbh, I remember hearing his name quite a bit in the handful of Habs games I watched, might also be one of those guys that passes the eye test but never gets the stats to back it up, so I would pass too. Need guys that can put the puck in the net in a bottom 6 position.

The going price for any decent player (so Chychrun) on an expiring deal is probably around a 1st and a decent prospect. Not sure what Ottawa values Turcs at, but you'd definitely have to switch out one of those 2nd rds to a 1st.
Also, I highly doubt Dakota Joshua signs for that little, Vancouver would be all over re-signing him at that price. If he hits the market, he can easily get more than 3M on a longer term deal.
