Canes Retool 2024-25
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>Agree with all of the above and I'd love to target Necas. The only thing I have a hard time with is parting with Samberg...I feel like I value him higher than most.</div></div>
I also value Samberg very high. But TNSE is more than likely going to sign Dillon to a new contract and Ville needs to play in the NHL next season. So Samberg might be on the out. I hate saying that because I think we should NOT sign Dillon and have J-Mo, Samberg and Ville as our left side D next season.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Not a chance Winnipeg does that. They're not retaining on a similar although older player and giving away a promising young defenseman for a winger looking for a big raise.
Necas is okay, but doesn't have that much value.</div></div>
You're hilarious. Necas is a great player. He also fills a need for the Jets for a top 6 RW. Also Necas is a RFA and the only way we can sign a player like that is if he has no other options. Kind of like Vilardi was last year. Like I mentioned above TNSE is more than likely going to sign Dillon to a new contract so that will probably mean Heinola or Samberg are on the way out. I would rather have Heinola over Samberg if the Jets re-sign Dillon.

Canes Retool 2024-25
As much as I would hate to see Ehlers go I would love to see him on a team like the Canes. They play with speed and skill and I think that is just what Ehlers needs. As a Jets fan I would do this deal. Also If this deal happens (which I think it could) I hope Carolina would play him on the left side. Yes he can play right side but he is better on the left.

Would NYI do this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Probably need a upgrade on pageau if Connor is changed for ehlers, possibly Nelson.</div></div>
I rather have Pageau because he is a right shot centre. He could play right side and have Perfetti play centre. But if that doesn't work out then move Perfetti to the left side and find another RW. If there needs to be an upgrade would NYI have any interest in trading for Dobson if Connor is in play? Pulock locked in long term already and Dobson will probably want the same or more when his current contract is over.

I would rather have Kyle Connor in the trade instead of Ehlers. Interested to see if NYI would do the trade if it was Connor and Pionk for Pulock and Pageau.

Not a chance WPG does this. Vilardi I believe would be untouchable.

Game 3 lines please
I was a major advocate for Ehlers to be bumped to the top line and Connor down to the 2nd with Monahan but KC has looked so good this series already. I think keep that line together because it has been good. I really like moving Toffoli to Lowry and Nino and hopefully that gets Toffoli going because we need him going. I love love love Perfetti drawing in and putting him with Ehlers and Monahan. Perfetti brings more speed and would really help Ehlers. With the D pairings Schmidt needs to draw in going to Colorado. Stanley has played ok but he just doesnt have the hockey sense that Schmidt has. Also Bednar is going to match up MacKinnon against Stanley all the time and its going to be bad. Also Pionk can not play with Morrissey. Pionk isnt defensively responsible enough to allow Morrissey to jump up and push the offence. Bring Schmidt in and allow Samberg to move back to his natural left side and call it a day.

Who would you rather have
If the asking price for Jake comes down then it's obviously Jake. But I have to go with Toffoli. I really like this player and he likes playing in Van and had good results in VAN the first time he was here.

Window is now
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jfkst1</b></div><div>The problem that is obvious to all Penguins fans is that Sullivan has sucked this season yet still has a job. So if they cared about competing, he would have been fired months ago. Rutherford as GM would have fired him months ago unless ownership prevented it. So if they wanted to compete, that is step #1. Otherwise, all these other moves mean nothing. They didn't do that which tells me and all other PIT fans that they have no interest in competing. So don't try making contradictory decisions or it will make everything worse. They're sellers this year so sell everything that maximizes value.</div></div>
I have been a life long Pens fan. I don't think Sully is the problem. I think the decisions that Dubas made in signing certain players just hasn't worked out. Also from what I have seen from the PP is that it's filled with too skilled of players. They need to simplify the PP and move EK65 off the top unit and let Letang, Malkin, Crosby cook like they have for years. The problem that is going to be this trade deadline is that they are only willing on selling Guentzel. So that isn't going to do much come the next 2 years for the Pens window. Whatever you get for Guentzel won't be NHL ready for potentially 2 years. Outside the Cup window.

I think so too. Making some "buying" trades Like Buchnevich keeps the window open next year. Especially when STL is willing to take on 50% of the contract.

I can totally see Alvin/ Jimmy R trading Lekkermaki if there is a trade and extension for Jake. I would rather see them trade Lekkermaki than Willander. Also I have heard that Myers is close to being ready to come back and same with Soucy. So Mikheyev will most definitely have to be included in any deal going forward.

They'll want to add depth not give away defensive depth for forward depth.</div></div>
What are you talking about? With getting rid of Stanley that makes room for Heinola to join the squad. There is our depth piece. Also Jets are going to need to start moving prospects in order to compete for a Stanley Cup because the rest of the West is going to be getting better and Mantha helps the Jets win now. Chibrikov isn't a top prospect. He is really good don't get me wrong but Lambert, Rutger, Lucius, Barlow are above him.

If VAN trades for him with an extension in place AND take on Mikheyev it's going to cost you a lot more.</div></div>
I agree with this 100%. If Mikheyev is going back to PIT then be prepared to lose Lekkermaki or Willander. If Jake is Vancouver bound (with an extension in place) I can see it being
VAN: Mikeheyev, Podkozin, Lekkermaki
PIT: Jake (50% retained)

interesting with the Colin Miller. I keep seeing Toffoli rumours that NJD might hold on to him. Now with Lindy Ruff being fired Toffoli might end up staying because Green really liked him when Green was coaching in Vancouver and had Toffoli on his team.

I looked at the Caps roster and the right side is getting up there in age so I thought Pionk would be a good add. Also Pionk needs to be in a different system and I think he would be a different player. He has shown signs of being a really solid offensive dman but not with Rick Bowness. I always remember TVR being a really solid reliable dman. I think he would allow Heinola the freedom to do his thing.

Correct. It was Kotkaniemi and Necas.
Speaking of that, as a Canes fan what were your thoughts on that reported trade and then finding out what Petey ended up signing the extension for? As a person living in Vancouver and follow the Canucks because of where I live I was hoping that the Canucks would get these 2 players for Petey.

Thanks for your productive input. Like I said in my write up, these were the 2 players rumoured to be part of the Petey trade with VAN so that is why I included them. But I also looked at the Canes roster and thought these players would be the most likely be "available" in trade.
I think the number might be low but I can see the years on the contract being more than what he might get in the market. But again you would know better being a Canes fan. So again thanks for the input!

How are you ok with keeping Schmidt and his contract? If we can get rid of that contract and bring in a player 1. who has played here before and loved it, 2. bring in a guy who can majorly help on the PP why dont you jump on that? Also getting a young RHD in Boqvist who can help the solidify the right side on defense. It's really a no brainer. Don't get me wrong I really like Iafallo but the left side is majorly crowded especially with Rutger due to make his appearance soon.

Because we need help on the PP. Because we need help on the right side. Also the Jets were STUPID to trade him away in the first place. Him and Ehlers had great chemistry. Also with a player like Perfetti that line would be so much fun to watch. No brainer bringing Laine back.
