Ehlers is one of the most underappreciated players in the entire NHL. That being said, too much for the Canes.

Also Pesce is not signing for a Canadian team and is not signing for that little.

Thanks for your productive input. Like I said in my write up, these were the 2 players rumoured to be part of the Petey trade with VAN so that is why I included them. But I also looked at the Canes roster and thought these players would be the most likely be "available" in trade.

I think the number might be low but I can see the years on the contract being more than what he might get in the market. But again you would know better being a Canes fan. So again thanks for the input!

Who rumored pesce was a part of the EP deal? Or are you reading speculation on the group of roster players that Vancouver would be interested as names rumored to be part of the deal?

I believe he's referring to Necas and Kotkaniemi, who were the reported centerpieces of the EP40 deal that never happened.

I can't see the caps being interested in Pionk. He hasn't been great and he's making more money. I really think it would have to be Pionk plus for TVR but I don't know that that makes much sense for Winnipeg.

Correct. It was Kotkaniemi and Necas.

Speaking of that, as a Canes fan what were your thoughts on that reported trade and then finding out what Petey ended up signing the extension for? As a person living in Vancouver and follow the Canucks because of where I live I was hoping that the Canucks would get these 2 players for Petey.

On one hand, I'm disappointed that we got so close to landing a superstar and couldn't get it done. EP40 is one of my favorite players not on the Canes and it would've been incredible to have him. However, I'm also happy that Don Waddell was willing to make a big offer and swing for the fences.

Ultimately, it takes two to tango, and it seemed like EP40 never really had any intention of leaving Vancouver. He was just using the threat of leaving and dragging out of his contract negotiations to get a better deal.

I looked at the Caps roster and the right side is getting up there in age so I thought Pionk would be a good add. Also Pionk needs to be in a different system and I think he would be a different player. He has shown signs of being a really solid offensive dman but not with Rick Bowness. I always remember TVR being a really solid reliable dman. I think he would allow Heinola the freedom to do his thing.

I'm an Ehlers fan but there's no way the Canes do this, why would they trade two controlled assets for a year of Ehlers, also not much difference between Necas and Ehlers so why wouldn't they just keep Necas.

I hear you and I agree the right side is old, but I think they’re more likely to just ship out a guy like Jensen or TVR, let Bear get full time minutes, then bring up Iorio next year (RHD drafted in 2021).
