Ehlers with retention over Vilardi, could work

Winnipeg would say No because Vilardi is expected to be one of their top two RWs for the next seven seasons or so.

Seattle would say No because they have a glut of middle-6 forwards (many with trade protection) already -- they have 11 forwards under team control on the roster for next season plus Shane Wright and other potential internal options.

John Gibson would say No because he's said No to Toronto before. Anaheim would say No because the Ducks are not retaining that much on him -- they'd just keep him unless they got a better offer (like the picks without the players and most of the retention).

If the Jets are trading Ehlers or Perfetti or is likely to fill holes in the lineup not to add one year of an expensive winger. While the deal helps Toronto, it does nothing for Winnipeg.

Not to mention that there is a little less than no chance Marner waives for Winnipeg.
