20 million in cap space next season and you need to resign 6 RFA's and Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk, Yakupov and Zibanejad will run you 16-17 million a season easily. You are just creating the Yandle problem all over again.

They had this in Yandle and let him go. Haven't they given enough up for players? Don't get me wrong, I like it as a Devs fan, but it seems counter productive</i></div></div>
Team has given up way too much for just one finals appearance. I wouldn't even trade for Shatty, if the rumors are true about him wanting to play here, just wait til July and sign him. It would be one less person we would have to protect in the expansion draft and you don't need to give up anything for him. One other thing, this team can't trade anymore first round picks for a few years. We haven't had one since 2012.

St Louis can't do that trade for two reasons.
1. It puts them over the cap
2. They are already at 50 contracts and would only be able to take back as many players as the send out or less. The exception being if we were to trade them an unsigned rookie.

Too many forwards.... Trade has to be coming.
Lindberg is only going to miss about a month of the season so they likely won't put him on LTIR. Doesn't change much, if anything but I can see them trading him and Fast for picks or throw in a Klein to get another top 4 defensman and clear some roster/cap space.

I think that's an obvious one. No point in adding them in since they cap out at 925K per year. ELC's are essentially template contracts that a youngster automatically signs.
I think players who are still RFA after their deal ends shouldn't be on this list though seeing as they were somewhat handcuffed in signing their new deals. Was it really a good deal when the player didn't really have as much negotiating leverage in signing with the team anyway?</i></div></div>
I had the same thought, was just curious. I've seen a few people do rosters like this but they still include McDavid and Matthews (which is mind boggling since he hasn't even played a game yet)

Arizona may be a scary team in a couple of years. If that team had a better goalie they would be solid. Smith has turned from Vezina candidate in 2011-2012 (think he was 4th in the final vote) to disaster.

I can honestly see us trading Lindberg and/or Fast now just to clear roster space or entice someone into taking Nash and his bloated contract. Still wish they could find a way to more Girardi or Staal, oh NMC/NTC how I hate you.

As much as I agree with you I don't think they will. They seem to want Vesey to play with Hayes and Miller. Buchnevich will likely end up on the same line as Kreider (at least at the start of the season) since hes the only other person on the team that speaks Russian.

Shattenkirk for Nash is possible with retained salary
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HopefulRangersFan</b></div><div><i>I thought Girardi's NMC turned into a NTC on June 1, 2017. Even so, I believe there is another buyout period coming up before the season starts which would provide slight cap relief if bought out. The better move would be to wait to buy him out just prior to the expansion draft (I believe the buyout window starts the 15th) just to be able to protect another asset; not to mention way cheaper to wait till the end of the 16/17 season. Still enough $$ left on the books to pull in Shatty for the whole regular season.</i></div></div>
That buyout period is now and only if you have an RFA go to arbitration, which we didn't.

Shattenkirk's trade value is deminishing as the regular season approaches and will drop off even further as it gets closer to the trade deadline. While it may be expensive on NYR's side to acquire him for the upcoming season it would be worth it to retool the blue line with Shatty</i></div></div>
Girardi's NMC turns into a NTC on July 1st, 2017. The expansion draft is June 21st. 9 days before. Girardi would still have a full NMC on the draft date and is required to be protected.

Fiala is still a 20 year old prospect with a good amount of potential, and I think it would take a lot more going Nashville's way to get Fiala, even without Ellis included in the deal. Not to mention that Kreider is part of the reason Vesey came to NYR, why would you up and trade him right away?
On the TOR end, giving up JVR and Gardiner for a salary-retained streaky Nash, a decent but aging Klein, and decent D prospect McIlrath would just be bad asset management on their part and a steal for the Rangers. Gardiner is only 26 years old and is good for about 30 points per season along with being a pretty good 2nd pair defender. JVR is only a bit older, at 27, and is the Leafs' 1LW, If you think this trade seems fair to the Leafs for what they're giving up, you're crazy. This is more lopsided than the trade with Nashville.</i></div></div>
Toronto has made dumber trades than that, not saying they would take that trade just that its happened. As far as Kreider goes, he may be off the table anyway. Vesey said playing with someone like Kreider was part of the reason he chose the rangers.

Rangers with Vesey. Nash trade?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div><i>No way St. Louis takes on that.</i></div></div>
Not only does St. Louis not take that, they laugh.
2 reasaons this doesn't work. They would be about 4-5 million over the cap and currently they are at the max signed players (50 contracts) so for them to take that trade the Rangers have to take another contract back or replace Girardi or Nash with an unsigned rookie.
I've said in numerous times the only way St. Louis takes Nash is if we retain the max amount of cap (50% which comes out to 3.9 million) and throw in a first and maybe another pick or roster ready player.
Another thing, Shattenkirk is a UFA at the end of the season. I'd wait to see if St. Louis gets desperate and lowers their asking price or just try to grab him in free agency in July. Hes from NY and hes already said he would take less to sign here. (<a href="https://twitter.com/PLeonardNYDN/status/746467821882843136" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://twitter.com/PLeonardNYDN/status/746467821882843136</a>) By less I don't mean less than his current contract, I mean less than the 6-7 million he'd ask for in free agency.
All that aside, the Rangers cannot afford to trade another 1st rounder. Last one was in 2012 (Brady Skjei) and hes barely cracked the roster.

For the love of god, stop embarrassing the majority of the Rangers fan base with these Nash trades that aren't going to happen. Despite how much some of us want him gone (myself included) these trades are turning into the TSN comment section from the Luongo debacle where the leafs thought they could get him and a first for Kadri.

(IMO absolutely unreal) but Shattenkirk for Zucc is a lot more realistic from the St Louis view. I'm thinking the Blues might have to add something to the trade but the two main pieces fill a need for both teams,</i></div></div>
The only way we get Shattenkirk for Nash is if we retain 50% and throw in at the very least a first round pick, I believe Boston offered up a 1st for him and St Louis turned it down. Best bet for the Rangers is to wait til St Louis drops their asking price or hope the rumors about him willing to take less to play in NY are true and sign him in July. Waiting to sign him would also mean the Rangers had one less person to protect in the expansion draft.

So 6 years of not drafting in the first round. No thank you.
St. Louis would say no to that trade anyway and I wouldn't even offer it. Shattenkirk is a UFA at the end of the year and he said he would take a discount to play for the rangers. <a href="https://twitter.com/PLeonardNYDN/status/746467821882843136" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://twitter.com/PLeonardNYDN/status/746467821882843136</a>
To get Trouba you would have to give up more than a first and two unproven players who between them have a total of 31 games played.
Also, why would Jersey help us clear up cap space and take Staal and his abomination of a contract from us.

From a Rangers standpoint I like the Nash/Girardi trade but I can't see us eating 2 million a season for 3 years, I'd say more likely the Wild just eat his contract and up the retention for 50% on Nash.
