I don't understand why the Rangers are chasing Shatty and throwing major assets at him.
They had this in Yandle and let him go. Haven't they given enough up for players? Don't get me wrong, I like it as a Devs fan, but it seems counter productive

Team has given up way too much for just one finals appearance. I wouldn't even trade for Shatty, if the rumors are true about him wanting to play here, just wait til July and sign him. It would be one less person we would have to protect in the expansion draft and you don't need to give up anything for him. One other thing, this team can't trade anymore first round picks for a few years. We haven't had one since 2012.

They didn't have the space to compete for Yandle on the free market at the time with the impending RFAs that needed to be resigned. Throwing a big asset at St Louis for Shatty is the only way they shed enough cap room to resign him this next upcoming offseason (he's a lifelong Ranger fan and has indicated he'll take a contract at a discount to the Rangers). I don't like sending anyone but Nash away right now... Contract too big for his production levels but then if they matched I probably wouldn't want him traded, lol.

So the Blues trade the two best players in the deal? Yeah that's not happening.

Don't see why the Leafs, Flames or Oilers do those trades. Even the Blues hurts them short term, and depending on the pick, long term too.
