2 reasaons this doesn't work. They would be about 4-5 million over the cap and currently they are at the max signed players (50 contracts) so for them to take that trade the Rangers have to take another contract back or replace Girardi or Nash with an unsigned rookie.
I've said in numerous times the only way St. Louis takes Nash is if we retain the max amount of cap (50% which comes out to 3.9 million) and throw in a first and maybe another pick or roster ready player.
Another thing, Shattenkirk is a UFA at the end of the season. I'd wait to see if St. Louis gets desperate and lowers their asking price or just try to grab him in free agency in July. Hes from NY and hes already said he would take less to sign here. (

All that aside, the Rangers cannot afford to trade another 1st rounder. Last one was in 2012 (Brady Skjei) and hes barely cracked the roster.
