Breaking Up With the Coredashians - Offseason 2023-2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>Sorry but Hellebuyck is a much better goalie than Keumper when you consider track record.</div></div>
100 less games played to date for Kuemper, but their career SV% is actually the same at .916 and Kuemper's GAA is 2.54 to Helle's 2.67 and I would argue that Kuemper has played on teams far worse for most seasons with the exception of the cup winning year in Colorado.
Helle at 3yrs younger and a Vezna season in 2020 does have it's bonus, but he's also sporting a cap hit over $6M. I'd say comparibly, I don't see a real life Helle deal being much different than what the Avs gave up for 1 season of Kuemper at $4.5M

Breaking Up With the Coredashians - Offseason 2023-2024
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JoeROFLCOPTER</b></div><div>Considering the market and considering the teams looking for a goalie; I would think Hellebuyck gets more than what he's technically worth. I mean you've got LAK, CAR, and NJD all looking for a win-now goalie and all have decent prospects. Also have OTT and EDM. Also supposedly BUF, who'd be able to outbid everyone, but I don't think they'll do that or else they'll piss of Levi, probably.</div></div>
I could see this, but historically goalie trade values seem to be a coin flip.
I used the template of the Darcy Kuemper trade from Arizona to Colorado for this, with Robertson being the young player (Timmins) the 1st round pick, and instead of a conditional 3rd, you get an RFA Samsonov who could step in and be the #1 on a Winnipeg team that doesn't necessarily have to start a full blown rebuild.

As a Flames fan, like the idea. Probably have to sub out Anderson for someone else though. Flames aren't letting him go imo.</div></div>

I figured cap wise, they'd probably need to move Hanifan or Andersson if they wanted to extend Weegar especially with the Huberdeau extension and Marner's contract on the books, so I was just being optimistic.

I left him off the roster because he is currently under contract with a team in Switzerland, so under the rules I made for myself, that automatically disqualified him.
I would have loved to have had Tyler Bozak at 3C or 4C so I could move Verhaeghe to a top 6 LW spot as well, but I didn't include any FA or anyone not under an NHL contract for the 2022-2023 season.

4th line deadline acquisition
I can't see Montreal trading Evans at all, especially to a division rival. Even with a healthy Monahan and a signed Dach causing a logjam at C, they probably move him over to the wing at the expense of Armia or Byron in the lineup if they don't end up making anymore moves.
Hoping if the Sandin/Toronto situation becomes unrepairable, we're able to move him for a bit more than the 2nd we'd get via Offer Sheet.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DrDinkiee</b></div><div>Probably one of the most reasonable posts I have seen in a while. Can’t see any reason Sandin is signed for anything but his QO. Which is great for the Leafs cap situation.
Is Milano worth that at this point however? Is Motte that low? Or are the Rangers just delaying the signing?</div></div>
Either signing could go either way tbh.
I just figured that a team may offer more money and an extra year for a player they see in their top 6 over someone who is basically limited to bottom 6 minutes especially at this time in the offseason.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>Could offer a third at most for Kerfoot. Canes don’t need him and Leafs don’t have much leverage.</div></div>
I figured 2 4ths would be a easier pill to swallow for Canes fans over a 3rd, and Kerfoot on the wing could help them after losing Pacioretty now.
Im not familiar with the Canes farm system, would there be a player Carolina would be happier to include instead of Rees?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Logan_Ollivier</b></div><div>Holl won't pair with Muzzin again. I would wager he plays 3rd pair with Gio or they try him with Rielly which strangely they never have.</div></div>
I don't disagree, though I didn't really spend as much time figuring out the D-lines as I did the forwards. If I put much effort in to it, I probably would have ended up with Sandin in and Holl out to be completely honest with you.
Thanks for all the comments guys!

You maybe right, but the way teams are paying $4M+ this offseason for players with similar and even lesser point totals than Kerfoot should increase his trade value for teams looking for a middle 6 forward.

Nylander maybe depending on the teams needs and priorities, but I think it's cynical to think that Auston Matthews would be walking away when his contract expires.
Leafs will have $55M in projected cap space, and the following offseason (2025) they have the Marner extension and JT off the books, plus the cap is expected to go up $10M in 2025 according to CJ and Freidman.
Matthews will sign an extension here as long as this team shows they are still prepared to be competative, the money players can make outside of their NHL contracts in a hockey market like Toronto is also a major selling factor.

The way this is structured, Leaf would have a little under $15M and their only major exipiring contracts would be Bunting, Kampf and DeBrincat's last RFA year.
Leafs should be able to get DeBrincat extended around $9-9.5M a year and would leave them with $4.5M to try and keep Bunting and Kampf.
I'm sure there would be some moves needed to be made in the offseason again to fill out the roster, but the cap space would be there to try and keep him around longer than just 2 years.

Top 10 Protected since I included Liljegren in the deal.
The framework for this was actually posted on The Athletic yesterday with Dermott and Robertson, but I decided to keep Dermott since I didn't have the cap space or the means to acquire a bottom pair LHD to fill that spot until Muzzin returns in the playoffs in this scenario.

Before he got hurt, I would say that Brassard's play this season has been a lot better than Engvall's with the acception of the last 7 games where he's really shined with Spezza and Simmonds.
That said, Leafs are known to be in the market for some centre depth in case one of their top 2Cs get hurt during the playoffs as they don't want to lean on Kampf in a top 6 role and Kerfoot has proven better on the wing.
Getting Brassard would help solve that problem as well, as he could potentially play a 3C role, bumping Kampf down to play between Spezza and Simmonds.
I think it costs more to move out Ritchie's cap in this deal though as well.

There are much better defenseman available for a 4th round pick and if they really want to find a spot for Wideman on this team (unlikely) they can always just offer him a league minimum deal in the offseason.

Possible deadline deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Good points, pretty sure you're allowed three retention spots.
And yes, TOR probably wants Braun more than Yandle, BUT IMO breaking up brassard and braun nets PHI more. I think Braun and retention gets a 2nd and Brassard a 3rd seperately... Yandle is a nice vet for 7th, and brings some offense, which TOR is only getting from Reilly this season. But pretty cheap, veteran depth.
If EDM offered that deal before COL, I expect PHI take it.
As far as Giroux, I didn;t go for a 1st but two low round 2nds, because they're getting TWO good prospects from NYR, (and NYR doesn;t need the retention).
But overall thanks, good points made.</div></div>
You're right, it is 3 contract, my apologies.
I defintely understand your though process, but Yandle just doesn't fit the Leafs needs. If they wanted him, they could have made an offer for him at league minimum when he signed with Philly, but I don't believe he's ever been on their radar.
Also as a left shot, you can't really play him on the right side and you're not going to bench him now that he's set the consecutive games record, that would be met with terrible press reaction everywhere. I can't see where he would fit in this line up, so I think the Leafs pass on him. They're probably more interested on Braun over anyone else named here due to their current lineup needs.
I get the though behind Giroux, but I think Philly hits a homerun when they deal him as he's going to have quit a few suitors, especially if the team is eating half his salary. You'd get a 1st in that deal for sure, even with the top prospects. Also remember that Kravstov wants out of the organization. Players who ask for trades never end up getting their full value in return for them.

Revisiting the Manson trade plus Lekhonen and more
Don't see the Leafs parting with Hirvonen in order to acquire a 4th liner, especially when you have that player in the pressbox.
I like the Lehtkonen trade, but I'd put him on the 4th line with Spezza and Simmonds.
Mikheyev has played really well since returning from injury this year and that chemistry that 3rd line has shouldn't be disturbed right now.
