Trade with Detroit and Winnipeg
No thank you on the Wings trade. Helm and Nielsen are our go to guys on the PK and to shutdown opposition. We already have issues of being stuck in our own zone, losing Helm makes it worse. Plus we don't need another defensemen who's prone to turn overs taking a roster spot that Hronek or Hicketts could fill. The only player I would trade for Gardiner is Ericsson and maybe the Pittsburgh 3rd.

@VictorMete's 2018 Mock Draft
Red Wings are targeting Dobson (who I hope we take), Bouchard, and Kotkaniemi. Arizona probably has the worst forwards in the NHL and a decent Defense. They'll either take Wahlstrom in your scenario or move up to 3rd so they can draft Zadina/Tkachuk then Montreal can take Kotkaniemi or Hughes plus get more assets. I'll argue that Bouchard and Hughes have higher floors than Dobson (He's really skinny and needs to improve his physicality). Bouchard already has an NHL frame and put up points that would suggest he's outgrown the OHL and Hughes played at the world championships and had one goal against while he was on the ice the entire tournament (against South Korea). I doubt Denisenko will fall past 20. If NJD really wants Miller then they would trade down (he's expected to go late 1st, early 2nd). Wings have mentioned they are targeting defensemen and centers with their 1st four picks. If Samuelsson is still available at pick #33 they will take him. Blashill and the Wings love WMU players. Kurashev and Marchenko are guys I can see being taken earlier in the 2nd round just because they have really high ceilings that one of the teams with multiple picks in the 2nd would gamble on them. Over all I like your mock draft and your analysis. Just wanted to give some reported rumors and opinions.

Cam Talbot went for a 2nd, 3rd & 4th and Varlamov went for a 1st and a 2nd for more context. Bishop was an expiring UFA when that trade happened, it only means that Dallas was the only team that could talk to him and re-sign him before he hit free agency.

Yeah he's worth about a 2nd and a 3rd. Kyle Palmieri trade for comparison.

Repeat (God, that felt good to write). Ducks N Wings
I love the Detroit trade. Only problem is he would be taking up a roster spot for Hronek and/or Hicketts, but he would be pretty easy to flip for a pick while retaining his salary (Carolina, Nashville, San Jose). We have plenty of defensive leadership with Kronwall, Daley, and Green (very likely he re-signs). Anaheim trade makes sense too, Ducks need more forward depth and speed, Burakovsky's injuries are a big concern, opens up roster spots for cheaper options with maybe more upside. All while getting a 20+ goal scorer who is defensively responsible. I think Samsonov will be in Hershey next season though, maybe a cheap older back up like Johnson or Pavelec on a 1 year deal for less than a million. Also as a Red Wings fan I was so happy Washington beat the Penguins and won the cup. Ovie's and Oshie's reactions were priceless.

Everything makes sense. Getting value for Skinner instead of risking losing him in free agency, getting a 1A 1B tandem with Grubauer, Washington shedding salary, Carolina being harder/tougher to play against with Orpik, Buffalo getting a middle six center to temporarily take over ROR, and Buffalo getting a defensive prospect with massive upside. Washington might ask more than just a 2nd round pick though. Grubauer is worth about two 2nd round picks if you compare him to the Cam Talbot trade. Plus there will be a lot of competition for him (mainly NYI), so adding in a high end waiver exempt prospect like Fleury or Gauthier.

Wings Trade for RFA's
I don't think WSH would want the AA deal. I would love Grubauer as a Red Wing though. Caps have a cap crunch and he's not much different than Burakovsky or Vrana so I don't think they would want him. I also imagine the team trading for Grubauer would have to take Orpik (which wouldn't be too bad because we can just flip him with retained salary). Then add in that Carolina, Calgary, NYI, and others will probably be very aggressive in trying to acquire him. Pickard, Korpisalo, Reimer, Neuvirth, DeSmith, Jarry, Dansk, Subban, Nilsson, and Kinkaid (Blash coached him at WC and he played 41 games last season) are all options. Anaheim is trying to trade SILFVERBERG (who is very similar to Nyquist) because of a cap crunch, so I don't think that would work either. I like Krug, but Hicketts plays exactly like him so it would be better to just give him a shot.

You could get way more from that trade. Grubauer had similar numbers to Cam Talbot when NYR traded him for two 2nd round picks. Arizona is set with their goaltending and can just re-sign Schenn. Carolina needs a young 1B goalie and to be harder to play against. Plus they'll probably move Faulk and will need a short term replacement for him.

Isles under Lou
Yeah the Howard trade is a big no for me. The wings don't have anybody who is capable of being a starter on their roster. It's Howard, a lifelong AHL'er, a 23 yo Czech we just signed, and a bunch of 19 year olds. Plus if you think the Wings are bad with Howard imagine how bad they'll be without him. Reimer, Neuvirth, Grubauer, and Lehner are other options to consider.

Interesting option
I didn't hear any rumors about Detroit wanting Patches. Plus we're rebuilding so it doesn't make sense. Detroit is interested in Dobson, Kotkaniemi, and Bouchard with their 1st. The rumours of them willing to move their 6OA pick is Holland trying to figure out a way he can draft Kotkaniemi AND Dobson/Bouchard. Seeing how we're exploring trading down, I think Dobson is the guy management wants.

No thank you on the Hronek deal. After his season in GR and his performance at the WC, I wouldn't move him unless it was for something ridiculous that Vancouver would never do.

The big point is Athanasiou will be a big disappointment as 3C. Don't forget about free agency. Statsny and Bozak aren't bad options and won't cost you any assets.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lly</b></div><div>What? Anisimov is not a defensive liability and he most definitely does not play in a sheltered role, and he literally hasn't played wing outside of like 3 games for the Hawks in 3 seasons. I know Columbus used him there for a bit when their center depth was better, butt he Hawks never really did because Q liked him at center. Q often throws our AA during defensive situations, late game when protecting a lead, which is part of why his WOWY numbers away from his offensively skewed linemates are less. His transition and passing numbers are very solid as well.
Now, he is not great at faceoffs, but those are overrated on a whole since they've been proven to not impact possession/goals/wins (their impact ends about 6 seconds after the event), and he does not instantly have chemistry with everyone. However, Anisimov is a good on the PK and is great at net front presence on the PP, and is a good maintainer 5v5, so he definitely has value. I don't think he's worth his contract necessarily, especially as a 3C, but he's a good player to have on your team for depth.</div></div>
I'm talking about Andreas Athanasiou not Artem Anisimov.

Helm has a career average of 51.3% and posted 51.4% last season. He played Nielsen's left wing most of the season which is why he had a down year face off wise. AA has a career FO of 42%. If that's your plan, AA isn't your guy. Anisimov would be perfect.

You're overvalueing AA and undervalueing Helm. AA can't play center, is dependent on his line mates for success, is a defensive liability, doesn't always show up to games, and needs to be used in a sheltered role with sheltered minutes. Helm can play center and wing, amazing penalty killer, amazing at getting the puck out of the d zone, can play anywhere in the line up, used in a shut down role and still puts up similar numbers to AA, has chemistry with everybody on our team, and one of the hardest working players on the team. Given the choice I would have Helm be a 3C. The Wings have a huge problem of being stuck in our own zone, so I wouldn't trade him just because it would be that much worse with out Helm.

I would take that AA deal in a heartbeat. You grossly overpaid for him. PS he struggles to play center, and mostly plays on the wing.

Martin is a decent 4th line player. That trade is the red wings get somebody useful and Toronto gets a cap dump and XO could find his game with Babcock. I think it's better than just losing him in waivers. They'll need every penny when Matthews elc expires.
