Orpik's $5.5M comes off the books after this year, and we probably won't be extending Holtby. Samsonov should be ready to start by then. Connolly can walk, plus Burakovsky and Backstrom aren't gonna get much more than they make now. Considering the expected range that they cap should be going up, we should be able to fit everyone in.

as of right now, the capitals would be absolutely crazy to let holtby walk. if the capitals win the cup this year, he will be heavily credited for making it happen. orpik the way he is playing now would be a solid loss, and you wouldn't have much to replace him with.

Lucas Johansen should be ready, and we can always trade Holtby if need be. But there's no point in delaying when we give Samsonov the reigns if we can trade Holtby. I'd never suggest letting a guy like that hit UFA

Also I'm sure if the caps move Grubauer they can add Orpik to that package.

if samsonov is hands down better than holtby ever was, then fine trade him. but if you are trading holtby for the convienience of cap and downgrading at goalie because of it, then capitals gm should be fired.

even if caps need to extend holtby it wouldn't be for much more than he makes now........vrana will get a bridge deal burn 4 million backstrom 7 mill.........

toews is an average center? he can probably show you his 3 cup rings that he was a huge part of. he is declining sure, but i wouldn't go laughing at bad contracts when your team hasn't won **** yet.
