You could get way more from that trade. Grubauer had similar numbers to Cam Talbot when NYR traded him for two 2nd round picks. Arizona is set with their goaltending and can just re-sign Schenn. Carolina needs a young 1B goalie and to be harder to play against. Plus they'll probably move Faulk and will need a short term replacement for him.

Among all playoff defensemen in _____, Brooks Orpik is _____ this year.
Plus/Minus: 1st
Hits: 1st
Blocks: 3rd
Points: tied for 26th with a lot of people, including Barrie, and Josi
Assists: tied for 25th with a lot of people, including Provorov, Cole, and Sergachev
Stanely Cup Finals Game Winning Goals: 1st
Consecutive seasons of playing at least two playoff rounds: tied for first with Matt Niskanen, at 6 straight years.

This trade could have looked reasonable in September or October, when Orpik started the regular season kind of slowly. I'm not sure what was up with that, but that 5th round pick won't be the best offer the Caps get for Orpik alone, this summer. A lot of people joked that it must have been a fluke goal that Orpik scored in the finals, just because his first goal of the year was a playoff game winner. But that isn't the first time Orpik's first goal of the year was a playoff game winner. Last time it was in overtime of game seven, against the Islanders, to start the streak. He's always been capable of shooting a puck. He just doesn't get out of position to try to score unless his team really, really, REEEEEEALLY needs a goal.

If they need cap space badly enough to trade him, I'm guessing he gets about a 3rd pick and a prospect or two. Trading Chris Chelios away at 37 years old, for about that, is still considered one of the worst trades in Chicago's history, so by all means, wish and hope to get a leader from two runs to the finals with two different teams for nothing, but be distantly aware that it isn't going to happen, or you might get disappointed when, predictably, it doesn't happen.

Every time you compare Orpik to Chelios a puppy dies.
