TOR and PIT trades

Description
* AA gets us the young back up goalie with promise we need (I like DeSmith better than Jarry).

* Without Hagelin I think it would be AA for DeSmith and a 3rd. So the 2nd is an upgrade for taking Hagelins contract. Plus his contract is expiring and we can deal him at the deadline.

*Martin adds grit and helps with Toronto's cap situation. He'll be in the line up when playing against physical teams and if one of the younger players is underperforming.

* I like Mike Green. Our defense and PP will be much worse without him.

* Hicketts and Svechnikov had rough seasons in GR, but looked good in Detroit. I think they'll dominate the AHL and get called up after the deadline or if theres a major injury. Afterwards they'll be regulars in the Line up. Hronek, Pope, and Turgeon will get some looks too.

* Hagelin, Nyquist, and Jensen moved at the deadline.

*Lashoff plays if a dman needs a maintenance day.

Leafs have no need for Ouellette also I can't see why Detroit would want to help a divisional rival like that.

I'm just glad it isn't Martin for Glendenning again...

It's a cap dump for Toronto since they have some important RFA's to sign in the next few years. XO's contract expires next year, so they can just let him walk. I liked Martin when he was in New York. He'll most likely be in the lineup when we play physical teams or if one of the young players isn't playing well. Like if we're playing Boston he would be very helpful. So Witkowski but with more offense.

    AA

He's honestly not that great. He's freakishly fast, good at forcing turnovers, creative, and has a good shot. He's a huge defensive liability that's not worth his offensive production, doesn't always show up to games, only effective in a limited role, and struggles to play center. He's worth about a 2nd and 3rd round pick (Kyle Palmieri trade for comparison). He doesn't really fit in with Detroit's plans and I'd rather get something for him.

Why would DET make that trade with PIT? What are they getting in return? An unproven goalie, an overpaid 3rd liner, and a 2nd? AA is a legit young talent. DET needs young guys to build around.

AA is not that good (see my previous comment) and is clearly not part of the wings future. The Wings are getting a 2nd, a cap dump that can be moved at the deadline (Hagelin is a serious playoff performer so he'll fetch a 2nd or so), and a goalie who excelled in college and posted a .920 last season on a cheap contract for an inconsistent 3rd line winger who can't break 40 pts or 20 goals while being a major defensive liability and used in a sheltered role.

I love when people make trades on here for a player then say "he's not that good" haha You know he's good, that's why you're trying to acquire him!

I'm a wings fan. I just want to get something for him while he still has value. He had plenty of opportunities to become a top 6 forward, but he kept squandering his chances. Bertuzzi surpassing him in the depth chart was the final nail in the coffin.

i like the Pittsburgh trade but id prefer jarry to desmith. i think jarry is farther along and just a bit more polished and composed. haggs is a pure rental that can be flipped at the trade deadline for a pick. i like AA but i don't see him developing into a top 6 forward so sell high.

I'd rather have a draft pick. They don't NEED to get of Martins contract to sign the kids.

Martin is a decent 4th line player. That trade is the red wings get somebody useful and Toronto gets a cap dump and XO could find his game with Babcock. I think it's better than just losing him in waivers. They'll need every penny when Matthews elc expires.

Yeah you're right. If they're smart with free agency and re-signing veterans, they shouldn't have too much problems signing Matthews and Marner.

And with guys like Dubas and Pridham I have full faith they can do it. And if Hunter stays they can draft guys to replace those vets with cheaper players.
