CGY is paying those assets to Ottawa for what could turn out to be a rental... Stone is UFA. If Stone was RFA, the ask would be much higher. Ottawa also doesn't want to tank too bad this year as they have no 1st round pick, thus three roster players going over for two the other way and two of those are very young building blocks (Bennett needs more ice time & Kylington will be a stud in this league). Think things through before rushing to judgment!

Frolik is under-utilized in Calgary because of their crazy depth and has not been one of Peters go to guys for some reason despite being used heavily by the former coach not that long ago. Frolik is a defensive specialist who can occasionally score, while Eberle is basically just an offensive specialist at this point who occasionally decides to defend. He fits better in CGY on an offensive deployed line to create some secondary scoring. NYI won't re-sign Eberle, but want to push to playoffs and want SOMETHING back for Eberle that is not just futures. Frolik at least gives them someone with more term.

The Ferly trade I'll admit is a be a bit lop-sided, but again is for a rental that is reportedly not wanting to re-sign there, thus lowers what CAR can ask and catches their GM in tough spot. Czarnik was reportedly sought out by 20 teams in free agency and gives a cash strapped franchise a cheap player for another year that again is buried by CGY's incredible depth. In an offensive role in CAR... Czarnik will likely "pop". This trade assumes CAR is out of it at the deadline.
