Description
Minnesota making Dumba available. TO needs defense. Dumba is a CGY boy... makes sense as we need a RD with Hamonic going to free agency. Brodie is an Ontario boy. Calgary's 2nd best defender with skating ability that should lengthen his career in the league. Still under 30. TO can re-sign him. Generally plays RD, but has played LD before.

Just for the sake of argument that's actually a decent return for dumba. He has a 6 million aav albeit with term left. Is having a very down year but is a good player. That's a 1st, a 2nd, and a good prospect as well as a very good 4th liner having a down year and a good defenceman that could be flipped for even more. Don't overvalue players too much that's a good deal and anything more is bordering on overpayment. But Minnesota may get more than that just because of the sheer amount of interest in Dumba...

Doubtful, Hamonic has stood put like a sore thumb this year. Every ounce of chemistry he had with Hanifin last year is gone.

Maybe, I thought at the beginning of the year Hamonic showed a ton of grit and heart which I like. Though that's trailed off a bit. I figured with what he brings to the team he'd be back. If not we need someone to replace him and I think Dumba is expensive. But I'd be pretty happy with Toffoli and Dumba

Doubtful, Hamonic has stood put like a sore thumb this year. Every ounce of chemistry he had with Hanifin last year is gone.

?? Brodie is the best skating Flames defenseman and 2nd best overall, although Andersson is pushing into that conversation (I watch the Flames a lot). He struggled a bit last year and early this year at times with turnovers but has had a re-surgence since his on-ice collapse. He plays a bit more high risk game but is a good top 4 defender.

I can and I will lol. I get the sentiment. I'm hoping that the idea here is TO might miss playoffs without solid D and don't get full value offers. Brodie is that left shot they need, but plays the right side - so could be useful long-term for the Buds. Toronto also tried trading for him once already - Dubas knows the value Brodie can bring. He won't re-sign with the Flames - I think he wants to go back home.

I disagree... thought I was being fairly generous with that offer. Gawdin will play in this league next year and has around a 40 NHLE. A 1st and a 2nd plus Hamonic who can be flipped or signed while Minny goes through rebuild (wants to live close to Manitoba where his family is)
