Opening Night
I would love 8 x 8, but for some reason I get the feeling for Johnny to start day 1, Treliving will have to go 6 x 7.25ish. Still staggers with Monahan deal... but I hope you're right. Lines look good!

A realistic line-up although you still have cut one player to get down to 23 bodies.
Although I think Brouwer ends up playing with Bennett, and I wouldn't put Hamilton and Gio together, I like the lines. Swap Gio and TJ IMO.

Hjalmarsson and Friends
Hjalmarsson has a NMC, doubt he waives to go to Calgary while playing for the Hawks. If the trade were to happen, we'd have to protect Hjalmarsson for the expansion draft (because of the NMC), meaning leaving one of Gio, Brodie or Hamilton exposed - not ideal.

Pensforlive's Gaudreau trade flames side
Yahhhh.... That's a terrible deal for Calgary. If Gaudreau heads East I could maybe see a Gaudreau to NJ for Taylor Hall and a 1st type deal. Would bring both players back home. And Calgary still has a top end LW'er.

Probably need to add some picks on that Hamonic deal.

Goalies
If that's the term and $$ Joe wants... I'm out. Chicago would have traded him already. We can't over pay with term and $$ for depth. Joe had an inflated shooting % this year and benefitted from playing with Backlund (as did Bouma the prior year). He had cushy PP time and couldn't score on it and his production didn't warrant his ice time for the 1st half of the year. He only kicked it into gear when the playoffs were out of sight.
We'll end up with two bad contracts from "the Backlund effect"

The NYI Trades... in what alternate universe would NYI make either of those trades... WAY to 1 sided...</i></div></div>
NYI themselves picked up Leddy and Boychuk for mere 2nd's. Most teams aren't going to do NYI a solid for a player that wants out (except Edmonton that is). Ultimately I think Hamonic goes for a Nugent-Hopkins or an Eberle with salary retained, but I don't think the trade listed here is that far fetched. Kylington and Poirer are solid prospects PLUS a 2nd. Wideman replaces the right-shot Hamonic, but I think 50% would have to be retained on Wideman, then the combined trade is more realistic. Just not sure NYI would give up Halak without another alternative, they searched for a goalie for years.

If it all could go right
I like the moves. I would also consider targeting a younger goalie like a Matt Murray or Frederik Anderson. Some team will be worried about that expansion draft!

He had to be signed to be traded.

Back to the Playoffs
I like Stajan on the wing with Backlund and Frolik, I presented something similar not long ago, opens up a spot for our immense farm centre depth.
I really like that 2nd line, but am not sure Tkachuk would be ready next year. Matthews and the Finns, likely... from there down not so sure.
I would hope to get Monahan a bit cheaper (based on the Barkov deal) and question whether they'll get matching contracts (I think Gaudreau will get more)
I don't mind the Boedker signing, but would prefer Okposo (right shot, more scoring touch to complement Gaudreau's playmaking ability)
Love the Widman dump and the Bishop trade. I think we should sell high on Colborne also. If Stamkos goes to free agency I wonder if it isn't Vasilevsky Tampa looks to move. All depends on Stamkos.
I like Jooris, Grant and Hamilton as our cheap bottom roster filler also, those are good picks.
These moves and lineup actually make quite a bit of sense as compared to some of the other suggestions on this site.

Wow. A lot of issues here:
1. Why would TO trade for Ramo when they can just sign him as a UFA?
2. You forgot to re-sign Monahan but also didn't trade him
3. Frans Nielsen is a nice signing, but I'd rather have Monohan at centre (he is younger and can score)
4. Kylington won't be ready for full time NHL duty next year
5. That Ortio signing is.... terrible. He is an RFA and can be qualified a small chunk over $600,000. for 1 year deal. He hasn't proved anything at the NHL level and is currently "replacement level" signing him for 5 @ 3.5 is well... terrible.
6. Greening for Bouma is a lateral move for me. Not sure what it accomplishes.
7. Way more players ahead of Klimchuk on the Flames depth chart for a call-up (he is not ready for NHL). Such as: F Hamilton, Agostino, Poirer, Shore, Hathaway, Grant, Elson and probably even Arnold.
6. Lee Stempniak is only getting older and was boosted by percentages this year. We have plenty of cheaper, younger depth on the farm with greater upside.
7. Fleischmann can barely hold a spot in an NHL line-up and will be lucky to get a try-out next year. Much cheaper, younger less injury prone depth on the farm.

Varlamov (CGY Side)
Not only that... that is a ton to give up for a goalie. Kylington is a blue chip prospect and 1st round picks are very valuable. We're trying to bet out of cap trouble and build with picks and prospect, not trade for a 39 yr old Iginla - he's not coming back and he is not the same player... need to get over that one ;)

Agreed. Rick Nash for 2 more years at that cap hit would be a nightmare. No one's giving us anything for Smid and Stajan unless we are taking back salary. Plus signing Johnny and Monny for 4 years is the worst thing we could do. Doesn't burn any UFA years and then they'll cost a fortune and no longer be under team control (RFA status)
You seriously think Tanguay has anything left in the tank? The way the league is going he'll be lucky to get a try-out offer from a club in the Fall.

In Tre we Trust - 2016/2017
Explanation:
1. Win lottery! Draft Matthews. The Bennett/Matthews/Shinkaruk line gets easy comp, O-zone starts (super sheltered) and 2nd PP unit time.
2. Sell high on Colborne and add him with Ortio to get Murray (Pitt will be worried about protecting only 1 goalie in the expansion draft)
3. Pay up to get Okposo to finally get top line, big RW who can score. Would be deadly with Johnny/Monny
4. Retain salary to trade Wideman to TO. Take back Cowen who gives us a cap credit when we buy him out. Brings back a stable goalie in case Murray falters (TO will resign Reimer in free agency). TO gets a PP scoring specialist D-man they can flip for assets at the deadline who is now at a reasonable cap hit (3.25 mil)
5. Move Stajan to the wing to complement a true shut-down line with Backs/Frolik. Staj looked good on the wing to end the year and opens up a spot for Grant at centre. Backlund makes everyone he plays with look better (see Colborne and Bouma), so we might even recoup an asset for Stajan if we trade him with salary retained at the deadline.
6. Smid to the IR and Raymond bought out... wooohoo!
I realize Monny/Johnny could cost more, but this assumes Tre works some magic. I only used a 71.4 million cap so if it goes up to 74, we're still good. We can fit all this under 71.4 and only have to buy out Raymond (leaves more cap room for next year)

No Joe Pavelski? I think he should be Johnny & Kane's center and he didn't even make the list.

Sean & Johnny will only get more expensive. Lock em up!
Need an experienced goaltender there and it would be nice to trade (salary retained) or buyout Wideman. I like Colborne for a 3rd however.
