I honestly might not even take Crosby at 2. His all around game has rounded out to a point where I'd probably take Karlsson or Burns at 2. Getting production from the blueline is a necessity in hockey. You can find scoring forwards in the later rounds of the draft, but there is a huge dip in the production from defensemen after Karlsson, Burns and Hedman.

Honestly depends on the scoring structure for the fantasy league.

I'd take Karlsson in a normal season, but since he's out for an unknown time I'd take Burns.

I keep going back and fourth. At #3 I'm be torn between Patty Kane, Burns or Karlsson.

Kane - over the last 3 years only McDavid has a better P/GP

Burns - He's basically a winger on defense. Gives you a lot of points for the position and has played all 82 games for 3 straight years

Karlsson - Better point producer than Burns over the last 3 years, but he could miss time. With such a high pick do I want my 1st player missing time

Most fantasy leagues base almost everything on offense. So in that case I'd go:

1. McDavid
2. Crosby
3. Kucherov
4. Karlsson
5. Burns

Based on Goals + Assists:

1 - McDavid
2 - Kucherov
3 - Benn

See I have to think that after McDavid/Crosby you look at a high scoring d-man because those are very rare. You'll always find forward to contribute, but if you can get significant points out of your d-group, that is HUGE in fantasy because most teams wont have that luxury. The spread last year between Burns #1 scoring d-man and #4 was 20 points. Now obviously McDavid skews it a bit, but if you look at Crosby at #2 w/ 89 pts, you'd have to go down #17 to find a 20 point difference.

Definitely not Doughty #2. How would you take him as the #1 D? How would you take him over Crosby, Karlsson? Doughty should be around the 20th player taken. Kane, Kucherov, Mathews, Draisatl, Backstrom, Stamkos, Malkin, Burns, Hedman, Ovechkin should all be taken before Doughty. Probably could name 10 more guys even.

Idk why you base your fantasy scores off of, but in my league if you did something other than this everyone would laugh at you

Burns is more durable and has more talent around him IMO. Also depends if were talking a 1 a done year league or a dynasty league.

Like ON3M4N said, is this a one year thing or a keeper league?

Either way, I'd take Karlsson, especially if blocks, shots, ATOI, and defensive points are included as categories
