Excellent signing for a player who wanted to stay in Vancouver and excellent signing for a team which needs him in the bottom 6 and on the penalty kill. One of those complementary players who are required for a team to be successful.
people wondering why he took a cut....
Simple, JR has always been good to his people. Was sad to see him leave PIT. But Hextal was an idiot.
JR collecting his people again in VAN since he got there, and he's always been good to them. He knows he won't get treated bad there.
JR will be up front and honest with him and he won't be looking over his shoulder.
He played better than his contract last year and he took a pay CUT!?!?!?
Holy crap, how did this happen?
I'm going to guess that they actually made him whole on the money to his bank account. Last contract was minimal signing bonus, all basically salary which gets primarily taxed at Vancouver rates.
His new contract is league min salary, all the rest is signing bonus, which gets taxed at wherever his tax home is (presumably his home country or just somewhere with much less income tax)

Rutherford wasn’t a fan of how Boudreau was coaching. Wanted stricter defensive systems.
Yes I do understand, as ex Wild fan i still like coach Boudreau a lot and just didnt like how he was treat by JR. Firing Boudreau was right thing to do, but way wasnt right in my mind.
