I don't get why every team thinks their 30+ year old goalie with 1-2 years left is worth a top 10 pick

if he’s coming with an extension (which is what the rumour sounds like) you’re looking at a way bigger offer. The bruins want more and the incentive to make it happen from the sens side is that he is going to be extending

That’s what I’ve been thinking. The first AND Chychrun seems like way too much. I could also see just Ullmark for Chychrun straight up but idk if Boston would want that much salary back

Extension is implied with the move, per all rumblings. Another minor piece is likely needed simply because Forsberg is a burden not an asset. And seeing how Ullmark is, he'd probably rather Forsberg, another Swede, is on the team

Very few B’s fans expecting the 7th. They are the idiots. The 26th by itself in very shallow draft is not enough and Forsberg is a penalty. So it takes more than this.

Ullmark is unable to sign an extension until July 1st, 3 days after the draft from which you traded the 1st round pick. You literally cannot have both this trade and an extension as part of it.

Markstrom has 2 years and retention. 1 season of Ullmark is a less valuable asset.

1 year of Ullmark is more valuable than 2 of Markstrom due to age and play.

Sens can extend him for 5 years and he will be the same age when his contract runs out as Markstrom when his does next year. Doubt NJ will be talking extension at 36.

I know absolutely nothing about the Philly deal except that the rumor came from Travis Yost and a deal would supposedly get done some time around the draft.

I would imagine the caveat for Ullmark waiving is an extension with similar trade protection, otherwise why would he?


Plus there is the 2.75m penalty of Forsberg who is of no need, use, or desire by Boston to have, saving Ottawa from buying him out, or retaining and trading.

The 26th in a weak draft does not cover Ullmark alone, having to take Forsberg in full, you’ll have to pay for that too.

Hard to compare the two from NJD perspective. A big part about why Fitzgerald went with Markstrom (over an unknown other option) was that the player wanted to play here. Ullmark, as we know, did not. So NJD would obviously pay more for Markstrom.

Ullmark doesn’t have full control like Markstrom, but he has some control on 2024-25 and full control on 2025+.

Ullmark never blocked a trade to NJ nor were they on his no trade list. Don’t know where you got that rumor. NJ was deep in talks for Ullmark, they balked at the asking price.

Where did you hear that? Devils were competing against OTT and TOR for Markstrom, and on-again, off-again thing with Saros, had recently re-engaged with Ducks over Gibson, we talking to Wild about Gustavsson…but been pretty quiet on Ullmark. I don’t think Devils were talking to Boston at all.

Not all Boston fans think Ullmark will get a 10OA pick. The simple reality is Boston does NOT have to trade him but Ottawa DOES need a goalie. I personally hope he stays and they opt for a cheaper shorter term center, a scoring RD, LD3 depth and run the tandem for another year!! If he DOES goes to Ottawa with term, I would expect Boston’s 2024 first back and one or two prospects.

Can buy out Forsberg.

Boston's leverage is they don't need to trade him.
