Description
Watched the San Jose Hockey Now interview with Craig Button and got me thinking about how the Sharks "other 1st" at #14 might have more value trading down. Going up or down, finding the right partner isn't easy.
I was originally going to work this with Smith and Celebrini returning to college, but the latest is Smith is signing which leads me to believe Celebrini will too. This makes Zadina pretty difficult to justify making a roster spot for. I also think Logan Couture at least attempts to be back in the lineup opening night.
I am also grabbing a couple of the, what I believe to be, more balanced cap dump trades suggested by other ACGM players.

I have seen several attempts to dump Fabbri to the Sharks with a pick sweetener. Sharks are needing future RD. While a SandinPellikka is out of the question, a 3rd pair projecting guy may not be a questionable sweetener if some late draft assets are sent back.

I thought about a Pionk trade since I see a few ACGM's trying to make that dump. But the more I tried to make that work, the crazier I thought they were. He's going to be a Jet, at least until TDL. But we can clear Schmidt for the low-low price of a 2nd.

Draft rankings are still all over the map. Some of these may not be available where I picked and some may land later. This is what I see as an ideal group with the collected first 2 rounds of picks.

        #1 Macklin Celebrini - C
        #22 Charlie Elick - RD
        #24 EJ Emery - RD

Detroit says no thanks, we like Gibson. We will go a different avenue if this is the cost.

Fair enough. It was just an attempt to bolster our RD. I realize that's a fairly ubiquitous problem. I figured Gibson's ceiling made him negotiable. We can still take Fabbri but some capital should come with him.

        Thanks.
Hard to imagine all this activity panning out.
As far as Bordeleau, I suspect its a little early in the rebuild and player evaluation stage to bridge guys like Bordeleau. I think Grier will QO and bridge next year if it looks like he will stick. Otherwise he probably wants the flexibility of the 1 year to move at TDL depending on how prospects are developing.

Even though there is only 1 player on your roster that had more goals than Fabbri? Let's be realistic.

Yeah, it's funny how so many see Fabbri as this unmoveable player (big cap dump). He's not. He still has value. He's a half point per game, middle six winger, that plays an aggressive, decent two-way game. Without retention, he should easily fetch a mid (4th-5th) round pick. With up to 50% retention, he should fetch a higher (2nd-3rd) round pick. People saying we would have to give up a high pick, or high-end prospect is laughable. Same goes for Maatta. These are 2 very easy contract to move, to make room for a couple younger players.

Really don't think the Jets will make this kind of move to dump Schmidt, they traded their 1st and 3rd, cant see a draft and develop organization waiting till the 4th round to make a pick at the draft, suppose if they pick up a 1st for Ehlers that might change things though even then they'd be better to buyout Schmidt or hang onto imo.

Fabbri only has 1 x $4,000,000 we're not dealing him just to deal him for a bunch nothing.

And Gibson will probably be our future 3rd pairing RHD, So he's absolutely going nowhere.

I would accept that if I were the Wings. Gibson is at best a 5/6 defenseman. I would be fine losing him if it meant we had the cap room to keep Kane and sign a top 4 RD or another top 6 winger.

You can keep the 4 mil winger who's literally never played a full year in his life, who had... 32 points last year.

Sharks aren't taking him and giving up anything. No one is

His production relative to Sharks placeholders is completely irrelevant. All that matters is what the league market supports and what the Wings needs are. Sharks are where the Wings were 2020-2022 and at the moment have cap for draft assets. Fabbri is not a future piece.

If there is anything that I have had a clear perspective on is the lack of value that the Sharks albatross contracts have had. Miracle that Grier got anything at all for a couple of those. This TDL he couldn't even give away Barabanov for free. I don't think Fabbri is quite in that category, but RW have a lot of signings to do and are in the bubble. If they want to be on top of it they will need to spend. I can't imagine Fabbri is part of that plan. Maybe he is. Whatever, there are plenty of other dumps out there.

Reasonable. Though at some point "draft and develop" has to flip to the "win now" window, which I believe based on this season's performance the Jets are squarely in. Dead cap is the bane of "win now".

Truth is though they're so ****ing far from winning anything anytime soon they're better off just waiting out Schmidt's contract and keeping their pick.. lol 😆

Seriously though I just doubt they'll pay to dump Schmidt but maybe. They may have finished 4th overall but they really aren't close to any of the conference finalists.

Avs decline as they seem to have specifically held onto that first this year for some reason and I believe they probably have a specific target in mind.
