But if he would, and we had confidence that Marner would re-sign, that could be hot

Would a top line of Gauthier-Carlsson-Marner wreck ****, yes. But call me skittish for not wanting to pay him 15 million and ending up just like the leafs.

1,000% but you really think his ask is $15M? If he’s comparing against Matthews, that’s $13.25x4, and he’d know he’s a step down from that. So that’s like 12.5x4, or close to Nylander on a long term which isn’t team shattering.

Agreed it’s still a tough one to take on right before dishing out all our post-ELC deals though

I appreciate your participation in the conversation, however can you elaborate on your thoughts and not just share your emotional connections? How is it brutal? Leafs get some cap relief to offer them freedom to invest in other areas, get a bonafide number 1, and some draft capital..they move from a dimunative fwd that doesnt move the needle for them from a championship perspective in the process..Marner is a great regular season player but he isnt gonna help us in winning a cup imo
Lillypad isnt built for the playoffs in the east either and Jarnkrok leaving creates space for a cheaper player to fill his roster spot.
what is your logic

Duck fans keep saying that, but I think with the right coiach in place (not Keefe) and with Matthews having a call with him may help sway that attitude..I dont believe in I am not playing there..thats what influence is for..just need the right offer.

Marner wouldnt waive his NTC if he had no intentions of resigning imo...Hes a better fit for the Ducks and the wetern conference style of play..i see it as win win

depends on where they are going..for a rebuild its a strong offer..if they plan on competing then I concure...I wouldnt trade that RD man either...all depends on direction...but I hear they want to rebuild under Conroy, hence Markstrom rumours

His agent literally put out a statement a year ago when rumors were circulating (thus causing Toronto media to go ape ****) that Dubas was in on Gibson hard before Dubas was shown the door for his power play.

Noted on $12. For Gibby and a late 1st I’d go for it as ANA. But in reality this is super farfetched because the odds of Marner waiving for ANA are low, and the odds of Gibby doing so for TOR are even worse, let alone trade values etc

Sure the leafs gain cap space, but in my opinion they’re not getting good value in return for those 3 players. You’re trading an elite wing, a good right shot d, and a good bottom six player for a late first, a late second, and a goalie who hasn’t been good in 5 years. That’d be a bad return for Marner alone.

What I think Im getting from your evaluation is you dont believe Gibby can find his game on a better team like the Leafs (using better lightly after last nights game against Bos smh)
Cap relief has value..and yes your right the picks are a bit late but I think we may be over valuing Marner..hes a great playmaker and smart af but not a world beater. (only a couple of those guys in the league I know)
Liljegren is an ok bottom 4 D and replaceable and Jarnkrok is also a good utility player and replaceable for cheaper (imo)
the cap space would be good to shore up checking fwds and Dmen suited for east style of game.
But I do get your concerns about the trade..trades are usually good if both fan bases hate it..meaninhg no one is getting fleeced and both teams get better.

your concerns are real..wouldnt he look good with Trevor? and I think with all the backlash hes getting atm he may welcome the Ducks (a place where he could get lost in the crowd of sports) where he could be a leader and in a western conf where is style is better suited for...I love Mitch, man that guy is smart and such vision, but not suited for east (too big n strong d first) and we need a bonafide starter so hes money is needed elsewhere..not moving Matthews, Willy or JT

Yeah look I’m super not opposed to Marner personally (though there are some Ducks fans who are just because of the $12M he wants).

To me the problem is what value is be willing/able to give as ANA
1. I wouldn’t give up a single piece of the core for him (Leo, McT, Z, Gauthier, Terry, Zell, Minty, Zell, ‘24 ANA 1st).
2. Half our vets have outright said no to TOR (Gibby, Gudas, Fowler)
3. He’s a pending UFA, so while there’s hope he’d re-sign in ANA if he’s waive for us, there’s nothing concrete, which hurts the value I’d give up mid-rebuild

Would I do Vatrano, Lacombe, and the EDM 1st? Totally. Would TOR though?

probably not, and you make good points\the leafs arent interested in the younglings (dont fit our window) and your vets Fowler and Gibby are the only ones Id take (but if they stay true to their public claims) dont want to play under the big lights of the hockey meca..its not for evertbody...as for the taxes well I think Cali and Ontario are in the same boat..plus is \cali is nice weather but Tor is...idk
I am on the verge of switching teams if they dont figure it out..was a Nordiques fan as a kid, until they moved..maybe I go back to cheering for the Avs? lol
