Description
Assuming Vegas doesn't make any major trades and Capfriendly cap space of 87,500,000

---

- Sign Marchessault and balance between AAV and term (taking advantage of favourable tax situation in Nevada), throw in a NTC/full NMC to lower AAV and term; if he wants more AAV, trade one of McNabb/Whitecloud for more cap space, and replace with a depth D-man (term, keep to 5 years, maybe max 6).
- Re-sign RFAs Dorofeyev and Korczak (slight raises and bridge deals) for bigger roles with the team full time.
- Have Brisson up with the team and hope he can makes the jump now that he is playing full time.

Everyone knows Vegas is mega-screwed. They will not be getting full value for their cap offloads.

Disagree that NJ needs a defenseman. If they do go for a dman it will mean they're moving on from Siegenthaler, which in turn means they are looking for a legit top pair LD

Taylor Hall got traded to Chicago for pennies on the dollar. You saw the same with Fleury. To clear the necessary cap space to sign Marchasseault, my guess is you are giving players away.

But these are two names that make sense and I believe you will be able to do it.

Bahl and/or Smith need to be replaced with someone who can fire an accurate breakout pass

It's not my AGM and I'm not a Vegas fan. I'm talking about real life, and in real life, both of those examples you pointed to were in anywhere near the trouble Vegas is in now. You basically reinforced my point.

Getting Hamilton back will be big for that. Smith played so much because of injuries and Lindy.

100%. But ideally I'd want someone on the left side too. a better partner for Marino. Maybe bahl can grow into it, but I would not give him the job outright. At the very least bring in some legit competition. Colin Miller tier+ but on the leftside at the very least

I can deal with not giving it to Bahl outright, but would love a coach to get the Bahl back from end of last year. Need another shutdown guy that can maybe just pass better than he has.

We still have a year and then RFA control dirt cheap, I'd be happy to keep him as 7D.

My dream remains Marcus Pettersson

I don't see how Vegas is screwed. There should be no expectation of signing your own UFAs. By this post they have lost Stephenson and Martinez via UFA. IMO no way they pay. 33 year old Marchessault that much for five years. I'd keep Hague and find a 4m winger.
Vegas traded for long term replacements by getting Hanifan to resign and Hertl .

Guys, it's right here on this site. As things stand Vegas will have 2.3M to sign or replace six players, including their leading scorer/Cup hero and their 2C. AND the spotlight has been glaring on their LTIR usage. From what standpoint are they not monumentally screwed for cap next season?

And perhaps I am remembering wrong, but I cannot think of any non-Vegas team that has been in this deep of doodoo. Feel free to refresh my memory, but to be confused about the gaping lack of leverage they'd have in trade talks with everyone or the obvious need to clear a contract or two just to have a full team... I don't know what to do with that.

And yes, Celtic, when you provide examples of teams who had to give away good players for peanut shells, it absolutely reinforces my point. Not sure how one could figure otherwise, thats the exact point I'm making.

I disagree with your math. If Lehner stays on LTIR, Vegas has 7.7m to sign five forwards. They have seven signed NHL Dmen.

I have no idea what Lehner's status is. Even if he's out again, it only helps so much. Still a huge issue if they intend to contend.

I am ok with keeping Siegs. I see the reaction to move him (and Marino tbh). This team still needs a topish defender. Is it Skjej? Him and Petterrson with Luke would probably get us where we need. Move/keep as you want, but it cant be what is currently in place because it sucks and saying Luke is fine going fwd is nots and wrong. get a thumper at the tDL to help out

If Lehner is guaranteed be out the whole season it helps a whole lot. LIke 5m in cap to spend on other players.

Gotta agree with this. Others are overstating how screwed they are. If they try to re-sign any of their (or other) big UFAs before dumping salary, then they are screwed. But until that point, they have 7.7m to sign 5 forwards. If they can move some guys out before the draft, then they will be in decent shape. They still won't get full value for players they trade out, but they are not yet in a position where they need to attach picks to move good players out. We'll see if they get there or not.

Right, but again, that's still 7M for 7 forwards, and Dorofeyev is getting a raise. It's a problem, and everyone knows it.

Do we have any report on Lehner? Last I heard he was out indefinitely, but that was back near the start of the season.
