there's no way the sens are dumb enough to send their captain to a division rival but if for whatever reason they do I'm 100% down to give that up

Yeah no not enough. 5-6 overall is nice though but not enough and especially not to a division rival

So you think it would have to be Slaf, Mesar, 6th overall and another 1st for Brady?

I was partially joking, but I would prefer not to have a 3.4 million dollar popcorn eater/ AHL call-up in the deal for Brady. Probably Slaf, Evans, and 2 firsts.

Mesar and the Montreal first is what we are asking for Trevor Zegras.

You think that adding one season of Joel Armia and the peculiar first gets you Brady Tkachuk? From a division rival?!?

I don't think so.

And I'm a Trevor Zegras fan.

Hmmm and see from a Habs stand point I don't think I'd even give up Slaf 1 for 1, let alone add a top 10 pick and another pick. Get why neither side would see equal value though

That's a Stutzle level return, not a Brady return

The 2024 1st Rd pick is the only decent part in the trade, The rest you can keep. Sens have zero reasons to make that offer.

I can see why the Habs wouldn't be willing to give up that much, and that's why neither side would do this.

Reinbachers the best we can do on that front for this trade replacement offer
Slaf is MTL's only 1st OA in decades and he's playing well as he just broke a Teenage NHL record set 40+ years ago

I'd counter with 5th or 6th OA , Beck,Struble and a 10th to 15th OA pick in this years draft MTL will acquire.
It'd give OTT the 5th OA , 7th OA and lets say 13th OA in this draft and a way to cause havoc in the top 15, or Lidstrom, Tij and grab a D later at 13th
They could for example draft a Iginla 5th OA ahead of projections and take a D at 7th and its likely a quality forward will fall in a draft with so many strong top 15 options for Defensmen.
They could still end up with an Eiserman, Catton, Buuium , Parekh or Dickinson who fall outside projections as a result of OTT moves

MTL would have to find a trading partner in that 10th to 15th OA range looking for D though
If its me i'd be talking to PHI about Matheson or Guhle in a deal for their 12th OA pick

In the end MTL gives up a buttload but none of the players involved are from weak depth pools and we have other options in their timelines
So we'd be giving up a lot of future's to a Rival but would be getting arguably their most valuable player before this draft anyways. If they got lets say Lidstrom,Iginla and Dickison they'd be stacked

MTL's motivation ?
Tkachuk-Suzuki-Roy
Caufield-Dach-Slafkovsky

Until Mesar is ready then he'll be joining Slafkovsky's line replacing Dach as Mesar is Slaf's playmaker and best friend so they'll likely click when he turns pro just like they did at Camps thus far.
Either way thats a top 6 with Size , Skill and Goal Scoring with a 3rd line who can provide support both 5v5 and on special teams.
Plus with Power Center Florian Xhekaj another season away from being done with Junior he's far ahead of where his brother was at this age especially given he just jumped to Center 40 games ago.

MTL suddenly looks like a Darkhorse next year and a threat more so each year after.
That said MTL could just as easily keep their pick and acquire a top 15 pick for themselves delaying the build another year or so but getting an Iginla and possibly a Eiserman or Helenus is as tempting

For any other team besides you and Toronto yes, but for you guys and Toronto that's the price it would take to trade Brady to a rival team. You literally have to overpay.

Those picks sound good man, but it would take an overpayment to move Brady to Toronto or Montreal which would have to be Slaf + 2024 1st etc.

Under old Ownership i'd buy it
Under former Minority Owner of MTL that now runs things
Im not so sure given his strengths arent in dealing with Established Players, neither is Staois either.

He's always been big into the development side of things as has Staois
TBH i bet if we offered both Xhekaj's and a 1st next year and a 2nd this year he'd take it.
Not that we'd ever part with a Xhekaj let alone 2 of them, But yes there are deals that dont involve Slaf that i think you Teams Owner and GM would overpay for again.
But if we offered him a shot at Lindstrom and Iginla , those are his type of players and players they can build their core around.

People assume OTT is done making changes but thats unlikely
I predict a big splash at the Draft as its how Ottawa current leadership always did it
That said the big splash could be anyone that will get them picks they covet knowing they'll have to give one up to ARZ and one up to the NHL in the upcoming years.
For OTT they kinda need control of their own destiny again and Draft day deals will do that.

I'd say Norris but no one's giving up quality for an injury prone player at that caphit
Stutzle and Pinto you want to build on as much as Tkachuk but given your draft situation and timeline it would take the fangs out of any run if injuries like Norris's happen again. I mean OTT new owner was stressed over the lost pick for a reason as their plan coming in was stress test what they got and fill the holes via Draft.
Really though Pinto could land a pretty big pot while finding similar value in the Draft capital and likely land you a decent but older player in return
But i dont expect MA to sit idle during the draft and just take it on the chin as these 2 in the OHL were always very active

But again Ideally you try to find value with Norris first
I just dont see who would acquire Martin Hanzal 2.0 in Josh Norris.
That said Danault had a ton of Back injuries into his mid 20s almost and since jumping to MTL had none really
So some team might take a gamble on him if the cost isnt too high but that would defeat the purpose of moving him to acquire draft captial.
I mean maybe LAK might do a PLD swap and see more value in having the cap while he's on LTIR and trying to use him sparingly until the playoffs when they get close.
They're starting to really want him gone over there but im not sure if they're at Josh Norris level panic mode yet.
SJS might pay you for him if you take back Vlasic but the exchange rate wont be favorable i fear lol
