KK got scratched last game after a full season of bad play outside of a meh first 20 games, Rod clearly doesn't trust him, they really need to move the money to keep Jake

Yep. I couldn't agree more. This is the only way CHI even considers KK. Fanboys and meat heads love overselling players that they actually want nothing to do with. One more bad season like the current one, and KK will be considered a bust and a cap dump candidate. That MTL fan Andy_Dick is trying to sell a similar narrative right now about MTL's plethora of garbage contracts. They believe that if MTL's garbage is better than CHI's garbage, that should be reason enough to pay valuable assets for them. But if they are so great, why don't they just keep them?

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Hawks are the EXACT team that should get picks for him. They have structured their cap situation in a manner that is conducive to this very purpose, helping teams with their cap troubles in exchange for assets.

As bad as Kotkaniemi has been, it wouldn’t cost nearly this much to dump his contract. You gotta remember his buyout is VERY cheap and a much better option than this. At best he gets dealt for another player that needs a change of scenery, at worst Carolina attaches maybe a 4th or 5th but nothing more

And you believe that is leverage for other teams? That is illogical. Rebuilding teams position themselves with cap space so that they have the capacity to take on bad contracts. Having the cap space to make such a move doesn't make that cap space any less valuable. It isn't about what the cap space is worth to CHI, it is about what the cap and roster space is worth to Carolina. CHI will demand to be compensated if CAR wants to dump him. End of story. Quit kidding yourself.

Sure, it probably doesn't cost quite this much, but it isn't going to be cheap either. His buyout cost is $10M spread out over 12 years. Regardless of the cap hit, that is a lot of money and term. Also I don't believe late 1sts and 2nds are nearly as valuable as you seem to think.

I'd say he's immovable at this point. It's too long of a contract to take a chance on a change of scenery guy. Idc how cheap his buyout is. No owner wants to pay a guy for over a decade to not play.

The best team last decade with 3 cups and arguably the best team in the cap era not to mention a total of 6 in team history and 13 finals appearances. That profile pic isn't from the last cup they won either! smile

Meanwhile Carolina has only experienced ONE cup and 2 finals appearances.

The difference in Chicago is much more valuable team because of a much larger fan base and money gives Chicago a huge leg up over Carolina. Chicago will be fine it's Carolina who may never see another one.

Now keep digging for a better comment. LMAO

so it's the second or third to last, doesn't matter

definitely having 2 players in greatest 100 of all time helps that, not to mention that you were the 1st team to circumvent lmao

"we have a way greater chance to win this season than you will ever have"; actually, your team isn't even close to the dynasty the Hawks were last decade...that's just the truth. No way does your team stack up to Kane, Toews, Keith, Hossa, Seabrook, Crawford, Panarin, Teravainen, Shaw, Hjalmarrson...not even close

And you're sorely mistaken in the future when you look at the amount of cap space, prospects and young players in the system, that Chicago won't be a force in another couple seasons. Further, I have no problem tanking for a 3 to 4 seasons after the dynasty we enjoyed last decade.

    Try again

Ultimately, KK is still a very serviceable 3C who is still young enough to have 2C upside with the right deployment. He is an excellent chance creator who hasn’t been able to find the scoresheet as often. Besides, defensively responsible 2C/3C have typically gotten contracts that range from around 4-6mil (Lindholm, J. Staal [5.25mil over a 8 year deal since he signed 6x10], Cirelli, Eriksson Ek to name a few), so KK shouldn’t be considered that much of a cap dump.

KK has excelled when he gets more ice time, but that has also typically been the result when guys like Aho were out of lineup. Now that the Canes added a 5th C in Kuzy, it creates a problem in the offseason. But Canes probably sooner take the ~750k buyout penalty than move all that just to move KK.

It’s like $800K a year.. that’s barely league minimum. It’s not that high of a buyout and is the much more likely route if they choose to move on from him opposed to spending a hefty price to move the contract

Gonna warn you now even though it’s a bit late on it, but it’s best to not interact with that user this comment was quoted from. He’s nothing but an arrogant user that’s out to start arguments. He’s not worth your time. Just my take on it but if I were you I’d stay far away from him. Add him to your ignore list like I did.
