Canadiens don't do that, and neither do the Sharks. Not sure Vlasic would agree to it either. Brendan Dillon at $5.5m seems like a massive overpay, and no chance Pavelski comes back to a Sharks team that is almost certainly going to be in the bottom 5 again next year.

The signings of Dillon and Martinez long term make no sense. It clogs up the lineup even more and blocks capable young players who need time. Grier also said that they aren’t handing out contracts like that to players over 30. I’m fine with taking on Schmidt and Anderson for assets

I didn't think 3 years for Dillon and 2 for Martinez were too long considering we probably have at least 3 years of rebuilding left. I assumed Grier was talking about giving contacts of 5 to 8 years to players over 30.

It’s long for their age and it blocks Thrun and Mukhamadullin from getting into the lineup. I’d be fine adding on the right side and waiving like Burroughs

No reason for MTL to consider that.

It makes more sense for Winnipeg to just buy out Schmidt if necessary.

I'd accept that from the Habs' perspective.

Gorton & Hughes seem to have a policy against sending established NHL veterans to the AHL. They did it briefly with Armia as a wake-up call, but then brought him back.

Burying a player like Vlasic, which is the only sensible thing for the Habs to do, would send the wrong message to veterans around the league about the dangers of signing in Montreal.

I think the Habs are gonna ride out Anderson & Gallagher contracts as the most expensive, albeit still productive, 4th line in hockey.

Edit: Sorry I should also mention that while they could do the same with Vlasic, all the Habs organizational depth is at D, and so it's harder to use one of 6 "in-demand" spots over one of 12 "hard to fill" spots on a bad contract.

Nashville isnt speeding up the waiver exemption status by trading for wesiblatt. We already have a ton of RW in that 21-23 year old range that we have to deal with (Evangelista, Tomasino, Afanasyev) then a couple younger ones right behind them (L'Heureux, Kemell, schaeffer). He also hasnt really done anything at the AHL level to date so seems like a waste of assets

Anderson has a lesser cap hit and is much younger, Montreal has room on their roster for him, and Montreal legitimately does not have a spot on their D core for Vlasic. Its a very easy pass for Montreal.
