No goalie is worth that much.

    My view is this.

Mercer is expected to get 6 mill or so on an 8 year deal as a 1st time RFA (Team has more leverage)

Swayman is expected to get less than 7 mill on an 8 year RFA deal post arbitration (Player has more leverage)

Based on teams putting their money where their mouth is, the gap in value isn't that wide.

Would boston match an 8.4x5 offer sheet for example?

I'd offer 3 1sts for him or equivalent assets. Would be the highest price paid for a goalie of all time

That’s ridiculous. Anybody who thinks Ullmark or Swayman will maintain their play & stats other next Team after leaving BOS is crazy

I would never pay that many assets for a Goalie either. Better to just sign one via Free Agency, especially if it’ll be for Big Bucks in which case you just need to be the Highest Bidder and can keep your assets

Their GsAx suggests that it is more about them than the Boston defense, but this article is the type of click bait where the first deal is too much and the second deal is not enough.

An Ullmark to NJ deal makes a ton of sense if Boston can parlay that pick into a good pending free agent

Mercer for Swayman 1 for 1 is close to fair, if anything it favors Boston.

    Rest is ridiculous.

I know you said it was not your idea. But wherever you got it from, you should never read/visit/click anything they ever do. They are 🤬ing morons. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    2 1sts
Casey who I value at 1st+
    Clarke around a 3rd
    Lenni at a 2nd+
    Stillman around a 4th?

    That's a heck of a lot for a goalie

From a purely analytical standpoint, you make complete sense and I agree. Sad fact is, there's more to it in real world trades. GMs have to keep owners happy, keep fans happy, etc. Swayman is well liked, the goalie hug goes viral and keeps people in their seats and tuned in to TV, so for Sweeney to move him there needs to be some kind of game changer coming back. Neither Bahl, Holtz, or the 1st are a real world or hockey world gamechanger, but Mercer is. That plays a roll.

That being said, the Bruins can and will match an offer sheet like that as long as they think they can clear out Ullmark after the fact. I don't think Swayman would even accept an offer sheet like that knowing it'll be matches, and his buddy will get traded.

Your comment and mine represent the complete opposite ends of the ACGM spectrum.

Mercer for Swayman is arguably a win win. Gonna have similar contracts, both teams moving from surplus to fill weakness.

Absolutely fair. Unless contract negotiations go to **** there's no reason for boston to really even put Swayman on the market

People have no idea these goalies absolutely carry this team. The team itself is the definition of average

Sure it is a lot for any player. I’m not really looking to trade Swayman. His age and production level makes me less inclined. While I like Casey, he’s not what Sweeney is looking for in a d man and I think the return for Ullmark will be good enough.

I could tell you to “watch the games”.

And I could tell you “look at the stats”.

In either case your statement that the Bruins D is carrying the water would be laughably false.

It’s not just the D, it’s the entire Team in front of them.

More importantly, there’s always an adjustment moving from a position/environment of comfort to something completely new and foreign to you

There’s a reason goalies typically don’t fetch much in a trade

The Bruins have given up the 7th most shots in goal. They have the 12th highest xGA but have allowed the 8th fewest goals. They've allowed the 7th most high danger chances, but given up the 7th fewest high danger goals. This isn't the same defensively minded Bruins we've seen for years. This team is 100% being help up by their goaltending.

BTW Swayman carried a garbage Maine program for 3yrs and was a Hobey Baker finalist. All while playing in one of the toughest hockey conferences in college hockey.

I never said they aren’t good, I said the price being proposed is ridiculous and not to expect the same performance and stats from them upon arrival. Sure, once they get settled in maybe, but there’s a reason why Goalies don’t get traded for much

Take the risk and sign them via Free Agency, so you don’t get Jack Campbell’s like the Oilers did

I think this is the comment where people are ripping you. Anyone that suggests these goalies are a product of the system isn’t paying any attention, which is backed up on the tape and with advanced stats
