I don't think you want to use two guys who are vastly underperforming as your comparables.
Last year Rakell had 28 goals and 60 points
Smith had 26 goals and 56 points
Jarnkrok had 20 goals and 39 points
The difference between a 2nd and 3rd liner.
The Pens gave up a 3rd for Smith, why would they give up more for less?

Jarnkrok got to 20 goals last year shooting 19%. He is on pace for 17 goals if he plays 82 games which he never has.

Every GM in the league will take 17 goals (all or almost all at 5 v 5) for $2.1M per. Throw in defensively responsible, plays PK, able to move up the lineup if needed - he’s the exact opposite of a cap dump.

I dunno, hey what about Matthew tkachuk, i hear some moron traded him for one of the worst contracts in the league and tanked the team. Tkachuk cant be doing that well if that's the return right?

The return CGY got for Tkachuk is way better than the return the Leafs got for Kadri 😂😂

I mean, i hope so. Tkachuk is one of the top 5 forwards in the league, kadri was a good 2nd liner.
Is this supposed to be a gotcha?

The Penguins do not have a need for Järnkrok, and are focused on retaining and acquiring draft picks.

He is on pace for 12.5 goals 5v5 and his goals per 60 is 55th percentile in the NHL among forwards with 500+ min.

He has 65 min on the PK and has an expected goals against per 60 of 7.1 4v5 which is 48th percentile in the NHL among forwards with at least 45 minutes.

He has an expected goals against per 60 (5v5) of 2.72 which is 28th percentile among NHL forwards with 500+ minutes.

Now at 2.1MM he probably isn't a cap dump per se but he most certainly isn't a goal scorer and he is pretty bad defensively.

JT if not playing center is definitely LW on the first or second line. The guys a long the boards play winning battles for the puck is the best on the team.

when your team is up against the cap and you need to move cap out..... it's called a cap dump.

Leafs don't have to move cap, and their cap situation is even better next season. Sorry, moving a value 2.1m Jarnkrok isn't a cap dump since he would have to be replaced by a another player.
The 23/24 editions of Rakell and Smith certainly aren't worth their cap.

3rd liner, at $2. Per, who is 55th percentile in goals is pretty good value imo. But he’s on pace for 17 5v5 goals (10 YTD in 46 games) so even better. Thanks for the support 👍

What a nonsensical statement, just to try to win an argument. saying Jarnkrok is bad defensively.

Well no. Again you mentioned his defensive ability which is statically poor. Also he has 46 games of 12 min per at 5v5. Extrapolating that to 82 games means 996 minutes 5v5. Meaning he has 7 goals in 56% of his minutes. Which translates to a pace of 12.5 goals. I don't know where you're getting 17. Unless Moneypuck is wrong about 7 goals in 559 minutes in 46 games 5v5.

So, no I don't support trading a 2nd for a guy who is bottom 75% in defense and on pace for 12.5 goals 5v5.

Maybe you got confused by all the stats you’re sharing. Jarnkrok has 10 goals, 19 points in 46 games this season. Only 1 assist on PP + 1 goal & 1assist on PK (even more valuable) so … recheck your numbers. You’re twisting yourself into a know trying to make a point out of thin air 🤷🏻

You're really make a lot of excuses for a gm who traded away a player you have literally called 'one of the best players in the league' back when you were trying to compare him to a dubas move. Weird how that works.
It's also, again, very very funny that you get so derailed by your dubasphobia that you cant defend your own terrible trade.

Well my stats come from Moneypuck. I neither run nor contribute to that site.

His expected goals against per 60 5v5 is 2.72 which is 4th worst on Toronto (compared to forwards with 500+ min)

He starts 7.6% of the time in the defensive zone (2nd lowest on Tor and 13th percentile). I guess his coaches don't want him in the defensive zone.

He has a 50% corsi is again 2nd worst on Tor

His on ice high danger shots against per 60 is 3.43 which is again 2nd worst on Tor and in the 11th percentile.

Where are your stats?

Tkachuk forced Tres hands, he wasn't re-signing in CGY. The only thing he could do was trade him and got a top pairing defensemen in Weegar (who would be what this Leafs team needs). Remember that time when Dubas said no to a trade that had Johnson and Dermott going to FLA for Weegar grimace

Not really, exchanged a PWF for a top pairing forward, something calculator boy failed to do (soft and embarrassing). I wonder if Dubas' new enforcer in Matthew Phillips will set the culture right in Pittsburgh, already looking like a mess. 7 dark years for Pens fans grimace

That’s like me saying

The return Buffalo got for Eichel is way better than the return Treliving got for Sam Bennett 😂😂

Obviously the much better player got a better return (although Treliving then proceeded to sign the main piece in the Tkachuk return to one of if not the worst contract in the NHL)

Weegar is a terrible contract? If thats a bad contract, here are all the trash contracts calculator boy Dubas signed:

- Marner
- Tavares
- Kerfoot
- Holl
- Engvall

- Kapanen

Huberdeau is the terrible contract. And here’s a list of some of the awful contracts Treliving has signed

-Huberdeau
-Neal
-Kampf
-Reaves
-Klingberg
-Samsonov
-Brouwer
-Kadri
-Mangiapane
-Michael Stone
-Mason Raymond
-Engelland

One could also argue Nylander’s contract is bad, especially considering Treliving could’ve signed him for cheaper in the offseason but blew it

If you could read the post, the Leafs got no cap space because of the acquistion of 3m Laughton. Don't know if watch any hockey teams but your own, but a 35 point player who is a plus player when is plays mostly 3rd line at 2.1m isn't a cap dump at all. See you are new CF, but you seem to lack comprehension of the salary cap.
