Calgary sources say Markstrom to NJ is a done deal

Description

I guess in Calgary, they don’t listen to National reporters, local beat writers…they follow a couple posters on a two websites: one called Calgary Puck that are supposed to be 100% accurate. And one called HFBoards. They have claimed they have broken news on previous trades before and have always been accurate. Both appear to be sourcing one another in some regards (and sourcing a few anonymous twitter accounts).

They say the Markstrom to NJ is 100% confirmed and done. If before the end of their game last night, details began spilling out. Do not know who all the pieces are yet.

This is what their “insiders” know of trade:

1. Deal was done yesterday, they had to delay one day until Vladar came off IR and allow time for Markstrom to waive NTC.
2. Paperwork has already been filed with NHL central registry
3. It definitely includes Mercer, Casey, two 1st and another prospect
4. Not sure if that other prospect is Holtz or in addition to Holtz.
5. And maybe three picks total
6. I know if there is any retention, but sounds unlikely
7. It does not include Hanifin as he played last night (Markstrom did not).
8. Could includes Vanecek going to Calgary, but sounds unlikely.

Wait... Did Markstrom is an elite goalie for another 10 years and i'm not aware....
That's a ridiculous deal... If Markstrom is moved it will be for one of Mercer OR Holtz and maybe a 2nd or conditionnal 1st... It will be something build around a young roster player and 1st or 2nd round pick.

way too much, I wouldve thought markstrom for ONE of Mercer, Holtz or Casey, the dump of Vanecek and a 1st sounds just right.

If CGY retains 50% I could see the second 1st and a 3rd. But not another young guy

He is taking the posts way out of context, your thoughts are more in line with what was actually posted.

Here is what was actually rumoured

- it does not "definitely include Mercer, Casey, 2 1sts, and another prospect
- The inclusion of Mercer talk was if Hanifin was also included in the deal
- Retention is not off the table but it significantly increases the price
- The deal likely includes Holtz based on Seravalli's report

Suggest people read through themselves. Mercer, Casey, 1st are the “confirmed” pieces…plus another prospect…plus 1st+3rd for retention. It’s all there.

IMO, the Devils should stand pat this season. They may/may not make the playoffs with the goalies they have, but surely a good goalie can be had in the off season, even a UFA, much cheaper to obtain.

I am just going by what the boards say…

Mercer, Casey, 1st were said to be known to be in there
Vanacek “could be”
Retention is probably part of it, others dispute
Likely 1st + 3rd for retention (or taking Vanacek back)

Mercer, Casey, and 1st (according to these sources) are known. Seems to be unclear about retention or Vanecek…but they said another conditional 1st and 3rd for that. And another unknown prospect. We should know soon as they said paperwork has been filed with NHL central registry.

(To be clear…these are the sources that three separate Calgary flames pointed me towards….on the Devils side, we hear that the deal is as dead as it’s ever been).

I read through a large portion of the Calgary Puck forum this morning and all of the HFBpard stuff last night. I didn't see anything confirming Mercer being involved but that it would likely be one of him or Holtz.

The one thing that is common about Fitzy’s moves…there are usually breadcrumbs leading in wrong direction before an actual trade or signing. And while I know CGY fans believe he is being played for a fool, he is a pretty savvy guy who has been around a long time.

I just watched the Flames/Sharks highlights......Flames lose 6 - 3 at home to the Sharks.
Wolf was in net for the Flames. He was a fine junior goalie, and was drafted late because of his short statue....maybe six feet. Played well in the AHL.
But I really think he "looked small". Gotta think he will be exposed by NHL shooters, as he just can't cover enough net in as a butterfly goalie.
By the way, Blackwood, the Sharks goalie, looked good.

The Mercer, Casey, 1st piece came out last night on CP. Another “insider” then added to that post. It was in response to someone guessing the return. The retention piece came later…and the suggested price of 1st+3rd was also listed by someone who claimed a connection.

The trade confirmation, timing all coming from moderator on HFB (that numerous others said was legit).

They claim the insiders on these forums have gotten all previous trades right….and knew about coaches hiring a week before.

(I cannot vouch for any of it…I think none of it is believable…but CGY fans have bet their lot with them).
