Description
The Score App had 5 possible trades on/before the trade deadline. They had this one between Calgary and NJ. As a Devils fan I say hell no and 3 out of the 4 writers said NJ says no. One said good deal. Let me know what you guys think, me personally, its horrible for NJ and guts the team.

It's too much and I'm a Flames fan. Besides, the rumored Markstrom deal was scrapped over cap issues so there's no way NJ could afford to pay both Marky and Hanifin without sending cap back or Calgary retaining a lot.

1st for Hanifin would've been done ages ago. Price is obviously higher.

Currently 15th overall 1st is not the same as a late 1st from a contender.

As it currently stands, I’d argue the 15th overall 1st on its own is more valuable than the entire package Calgary got for Lindholm.

Clearly its more than just a mid 1st round pick otherwise he would've been traded already

You're bias toward NJD is causing you to overvalue its trade assets in what you're advocating for.

1st for Hanifin doesn't even consider the cap. Be Real

Way to undervalue both Flames players. I agree it's an overpay, but not to the degree you are claiming.

Markstrom's value is closer to a 1st, Holtz and a cap dump (Vanecek), Hanifin should get at least what Hampus Lindholm did which was a 1st and a pair of 2nds.

So breaking it down, I would say something like this would be more reasonable:

1st in 2024 (Conditional, if NJD reach ECF the pick moves to 2026 because the pick would transfer to SJS), Holtz, Vanecek for Markstrom. Then 1st in 2025, Casey and a 3rd in 2024 for Hanifin.

Laughable asks

If you want the hampus Lindholm return you would be taking back a multi year cap dump there, retaining, and Hanifin would have a sub 7 million dollar 8 year extension waiting to be signed when he arrives in jersey.

Since Hanifin in this case comes with none of those things. 25 1st+2nd or 25 1st+Bahl

Or again if you want to go get those things,
25 1st, 2nd, 2nd, Vanacek, Vilen for a 50% retained Hanifin with a cheap extension in place

A mid round 1st is more valuable than a late 1st+secondary assets.

But again I’m happy to go trade Tyler toffoli for a late 1st and tack on a 2nd or a prospect if you prefer that. Or the 25 1st similarly

Hampus Lindholm trade included $8m in salary dump.

Markstrom's value without retention has already been determined to be Holtz.

Hampus lindholms trade also included a very reasonable 6.5 million x8 extension signed the next day. One of the ONLY times a UFA was traded with an extension in place.

But hey I’d be happy to offer 25 1st+2nd+2nd+Vilen+Vitek for 50% retained Hanifin with a 6.75x8 extension in place

Hanifin may extend in Calgary…I believe that is the hold up.

1st+3rd is my guess if he doesn’t.

Believe what you want, but the Devils aren't in a favorable position, ever your own star player is calling out the goaltending. Everyone in the hockey world knows y'all are ****ed for goaltending and it's not like there are any good UFAs coming up.

The Devils choices are simple.

1) Keep riding your ****ty goaltending
2) Pay up and fill that need.

The Flames aren't going to throw away their season unless the deal is one they can't say no to. No team is.

Lindholm was also older and isn't as good as Hanifin.

The rumors I've seen on Markstrom was Holtz, 1st and Vanecek. It was probably Holtz+ but then you had to pay up for dumping that piece of **** that is Vanecek

If that’s the ridiculous ask I’ll pass on the 34 year old making6 million.

We’ll wait for markstroms value to drop. Calgary is holding an asset that looks pretty now, but likely won’t return much of anything this time next year.

And there’s a LOT more teams selling goalies than buying.

Edmonton went away with Skinners recent play.
Samsonov looking better and Woll about to come back, let alone the fact that they can’t afford Markstrom.
Freddie Andersen is about to come back in Carolina.
With arvidsson coming back the kings have no cap space.

Kent Hughes just went out into the media talking about how hard it is to sell his goalies.

Nashville just for all intents and purposes put Saros out there.

And since our goaltending has been much better lately, we can wait.

Maybe in a few years you can sell him for future considerations like Vegas did with fleury

A rental is a rental. Age is irrelevant. The center market is always hotter.

Please link a source that said NJD offered that?

I haven’t seen anyone mention a 1st round pick in Markstrom deal. I have seen a few people say it was Holtz and the retention piece was undetermined

Doesn’t really matter now, because it sounds like that ship has sailed.

Considering Markstrom’s inconsistency over last two years, I’d say there was just as much pressure on Calgary to sell high. They had a chance to add a player like Holtz. Hopefully they find another team as generous.

Yes, Markstrom was bad last year. But there is no reason to think that wasn't just a blip on the radar. This is Markstrom's 4th year in Calgary, in Year 1, he was the team MVP for 2/3 of the season, the middle 1/3 he struggled after returning from a concussion. Year 2, Vezina runner up. Year 3, he sucked, but it was also when his wife was pregnant and had their first kid. For anyone in that situation they don't have 100% focus, for a goaltender if you aren't completely focused you look terrible. This year? He's our MVP again. Even with a full ****ty season Markstrom has been out MVP for most of his time here.
