It would take far more for Carolina to consider moving Nikishin.

I like Saros, but I don't think Carolina would be willing to pay the price it would take to acquire him, and I really don't see any Necas move happening until the offseason- with the lean being towards him re-signing.

The ask from LA was starting with Byfield and a 1st. If Saros gets dealt it takes this. But I agree that is Carolina doesn't like this ask Saros just stays put or goes to a higher bidder.

I'm sorry, what are you smoking? You want Nikishin ALONE, you're adding to Saros. He's hands down the best defensive prospect in the world, and will have a shot at the Norris during his career. You think you're getting him for a very good goaltender whose having a down year? Get lost.

hahaha the best D prospect in the world. I forgot how crazy yall were on here. Ever heard of Clarke, Nemec, Hutson just to name a few...?

None of those guys except for Nemec have played a second in a man's league... Alexander Nikishin is best defenseman in the second-best league in the world and arguably the best defensive prospect right now

You should look up comparable goalie trades in the last 10 years. Do you know how many of them turn up players like Necas and Byfield? Absolutely 0. How many return 1st rounders? Like 5.

the Avs traded for Kuemper in their cup winning year for Timmins (a serviceable Dman with a bad injury history), a 1st (31st OA), and a 3rd.

If you're trading for a player you think is a dynamic center, Saros is going to be the start, and you're going to add a lot to it.

Goalies just don't have that value. The position is too variable game to game, year to year.

I don't see NSH having interest in Necas. Another RW isn't high on their list of needs.

Canes fans aren't going to entertain any proposal involving Nikishin, and most of their fan base are of the "GoAliEs aReN'T WorTh VeRy mUcH" mindset.

CAR makes more sense than any other team as a destination for Saros, but the conversations about it are never very productive.

I mean NHL GMs have that mindset as well... Goalies never get huge trade returns. I would love Soros but it's probably going to be a futures-based package instead of current based.

If you could pry Nikishin out of the division, I’d be for it.

But he is very likely a top-10 prospect right now and historically, top-10 prospects very rarely get traded. The sweet spot is 51-100 range…handful of those guys will be move every deadline. Maybe one or two 26-50 guy.

Y'all can't read or think apparently. OP literally stated he doesn't think this trade happens. This post is him answering all of the Carolina posts about getting Saros and only sending Necas or something the other way. The rumors about a Saros trade have all been reporting that the ask was astronomical and not something that teams were entertaining. Like two of Byfield, Clarke, or Kaliyev along with a 1st and another asset. He's just trying to point out that Nashville won't be trading him for something other than what y'all consider an overpay. Think what you want about goalies or the trade market or your own player's evaluations, but the premise of this idea is to show what Trotz has been asking for. So try and be a little more civil or at least understand the situation and what's being presented.

This trade won't happen because no team is going to mortgage their future on a goalie because goaltending is voodoo.

Nashville is just denying they need to rebuild at this point

Trust me, as a hawks fan, that is never a good idea

I think that Morrow would be more likely to move but we still probably wouldn't move him for a goalie

Nashville (and some other teams) are just delaying the inevitable and is going to make the building-up process just so much worse

If he gives any sign he is not signing, pull the trigger.

But Necas for Saros seems like an equal amount of pain.

Unless Nashville retains, Canes need to shed some cap for that to happen. 1st is necessary, Pesce would be the one that comes to mind for the Canes to move out since there's a bit of a logjam at RHD.

Morrow would only be available if he doesn't want to sign here after this year, otherwise he's considered untouchable.

Perennial Vezina candidates rarely get traded, but to say goalies never get huge returns is a myth.

Schneider wasn't an established starter when NJ traded a 9OA pick for him.

FLA gave NSH an unprotected 1st (which wound up being 9OA) and two 2nds for Vokoun. When Poile wasn't negotiating from a position of strength, with an owner mandated fire sale no less.

Lindback was just a backup with some potential upside when TBL gave up two 2nds and a 3rd for him.

Goalies can get good returns, when the circumstances are right. The number of teams that view themselves as contenders that need a star goalie seems like the right circumstances to me.

These trades are way in the past... like the most recent one you mentioned... Schneider happened in 2013 and the market has just changed a lot... like goalies aren't getting $10m contracts any more and they don't have the same trade value that they used to have

this gave me a chuckle. every day i log onto this site and i forget how much you poster boy your own prospects.

here's this KHL defenceman that has never played an NHL game but is suddenly the best player since gretzky
