-Calgary easily passes. If you take out the swap of 3rds, you're basically giving them a different pending UFA defenseman, two prospects, a 1st, and a 5th, while asking them to move their two biggest trade chips -and- retain on both of them. Hanifin by himself is worth at least a 1st & a Niemela-level prospect with retention, and I would think Tanev is a 2nd and another prospect with full retention. Brodies has zero value to the Flames if they're rebuilding/retooling, so you're short a couple picks and prospects to make this work, IMO.
-St. Louis laughs you off the phone here. If they're trading Buch, why would they be targeting a pending UFA like Bertuzzi? The deal here is basically Robertson (middle 6 upside with an injury history longer than a CVS receipt) and a trio of mid-round picks. A year and a half of a guy like Buch would cost a lot, lot more than this.
-Feels like a trade for the sake of a trade. The roster you've built here doesn't actually need the cap space you clear with the downgrade from Timmins to Desharnais, so this boils down to whether or not the Oilers like Timmins enough to take the small amount of extra cap. I'd say no but I don't think it's a bad trade either.
