Description
Seeing PLD trades popping up again lol

It really has become a yearly tradition here on CapFriendly. So here's how I would approach a PLD trade if LAK get buyer's remorse with Dubois.

I'll say this for my trade proposal. I think LAK rejects this deal 100% of the time. This is only the MAX I would offer if I were Kent Hughes.
Not only that, the only reason LA would move PLD this offseason would be to get out before his NMC kicks in, but it wouldn't apply for MTL, because everyone knows that PLD would waive his no-move for the Habs!!! So there's is ZERO incentive to trade PLD to MTL even if LAK would want to desperately move him. Them getting out before his NMC would literally apply for every team other than MTL lol

So at the end of the day, PLD to MTL is not going to happen!
Let it go, it's ok, it wasn't meant to be.

See everyone in 2025 for next year's iteration of "PLD to the Habs!"

Between the over-ask trades for Allen and the low-ball trades for PLD, Habs fans have taken the crown from Leafs fans as most unbalanced trade propositions.

Congratulations.

To anyone who still takes these seriously: Blake has to double down on the PLD trade, like it or not they are stuck with his sunken cost and his job depends on it turning around. PLD will be getting an improvement to wingers and a new coach so I doubt the next month will be enough assessment time to sell low on such a large contract.

I only included WIN's 2024 1st rd pick because I thought there would be some irony there somewhere lol

Even posting this doubles down that its a troll post. There is literally one every day, we get it, the trade stunk. The Kings have dropped 14 of the last 17.

Wow, LA fans must really be down in the dumps at the moment... This isn't even a troll post to mock the LAK, if you read the description, it's making a jest that PLD trades are essentially a yearly tradition on here....and at then end of my description, I LITERALLY wrote "Let it go, it's ok, it wasn't meant to be."

It's not a troll post... he said this is the most he'd personally give up. There's a 1st rounder and two promising B- level youngsters in there.

The problem here is Blake has in no way indicated he is even going to move PLD and with an upcoming NMC and the trade deadline looming there is almost no chance this happens from an LA stand point. So these trade threads become an echo chamber of the same issue over and over again. "PLD is no good, Kings have to add more," is moot when the Kings aren't even thought to be shopping him.

And Josh Anderson for 4 years. The whole point of PLD was to get a center to ease the loss of Kopitar. Even if this is the most the Habs want to give up, it doesn't address the Kings (and more so Blake's) primary concern, does this make LA a competitive team this year? I think I've written something to this effect for the past 2 months. I apologize for the crankiness but PLD to Montreal has such a low chance of happening and it's on this site ad nauseam.

Los Angeles will never have anything to do with Josh Anderson unless your 2024 first (with top 5 protection) is involved.

Ever wonder why Los Angeles fans NEVER post "The Most I Would Give Up for Cole Caufield" ACGMs?

No one would realistically risk taking on Dubois without significant cap going the other way. Plus, Anderson's buyout is palatable.

Alright let me see if I can say this in bullet points.

- Believe it or not the Kings are a wildcard playoff team and would need to drop most of their games to go into seller mode
- Blake will lose his job if he accepts that PLD was a bad trade and takes the L
- PLD has played 0 games with his new coach and has had subpar linemates, Arvidsson is set to return this week to play on his line
- With the trade deadline so close, it seems improbable PLD could play well enough that the Kings could get back a fair return for him.
- PLD has a NMC that kicks in for next season
- Even if Blake is fired, a new GM will likely want to see if he can get the best out of PLD at this point the NMC had already kicked in.
- The LA Kings are already retaining salaries and bonuses, have critical RFAs to sign, and no goalies signed for next season. Trying to salvage PLD makes more sense than selling for Anderson

In conclusion, if Rob Blake cannot bamboozle some team into overpaying for a struggling PLD he is going to eat it, or it will cost him his job. He might even be a buyer at the TDL to bolster the chances of the Kings making it not only to the playoffs but into the second round.

And that's precisely the point of my post. The fact that LAK don't really need to consider PLD's NMC with regards to MTL, gives them no incentive to move him to the Habs before it kicks in. Because everyone knows Dubois would waive for MTL anyway! And yes, PLD trades to MTL are probably going keep happening on here as long as he keeps struggling (or just doesn't put in the effort).

Personally, I want nothing to do with PLD anymore, that ship has sailed. I hope he turns things around in LA. My best guess, as an outsider, as to what is happening right now with Dubois. His expectations and feelings were hurt, because he thought he'd be seen as an equal to Kopitar and above Danault, but is clearly below both of them at the moment, and it's affecting his play.

So the two options are either :
1. Salvage PLD and keep him through NMC
2. Trade in the summer before NMC kicks in

I understand Kings fans' will to give him a longer look, but if option 2 was considered I don't think they could land more than the package above.

That's great, so to be clear you don't want PLD, LA wouldn't likely trade for PLD in your assessment, but it was important to show how low his value was even though that trade would not be accepted by LA.

The Kings just fired their coach, it wasn't PLD it was the whole team, believe me the last few months aren't solely on PLD. Until someone turns this team around you can't sell a single piece. And with so little time to move PLD, there is no point to this discussion unless the point of these nearly daily threads are that Montreal dodged a bullet. Which sincerely seems to be the case.

I think if Blake took option 2 AEG would fire him on the spot as an admission of failure. It does nothing to answer the King's problems currently and makes them arguably worse for the future. PLD would have to be moved for another high pedigree young struggling center to make it make sense. From Blakes point of view, PLD is the ship you go down with. I think improving his linemates from rookies and 4th liners will make a difference, even without he's still a 20+ goal scorer who is big bodied and can win faceoffs. Probably worth 4-5M if he never improves from how he is currently playing.

I got to be honest, I kinda don't even want PLD anymore. Guy is still a solid player obviously but the aura around him is, for me, officially tainted now. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that it was simply the environment he's been in throughout his career but at this point, shame on anyone who brings this guy in now. He's clearly as much at fault as the environment he's been on all these years.

100% agree. but you can bet that folks on CapFriendly will keep taking a swing at him so long as he keeps struggling. There must be something about big tall French centers that are irresistible lol

Fool me once (CBJ), shame on you! Fool me twice (WIN), shame on me! ......... Fool me three times (LA)... well I'm starting to get impressed you keep fooling people!

Well obviously the Francophone factor is there but believe it or not, I think the idea of "getting a good player whose playing bad, for cheap but then plays well for us" is the driving force on why he's being brought up by many Habs fans. His season thus far should be the reason why Habs fans DONT want him, even for cheap.
