Massive overpay for Noah Hanifin, And no Colorado can't afford him long term with what he's seeking. Especially not with Landy due back.

Seems like too much of a lateral move for COL considering what they're giving up.

Flames should target Byram + Calum Ritchie for Hanifin in a Trade with COL. Simply not interested in any of the Players/Prospects being proposed here otherwise

That’s not good enough for Tanev. It needs to be a Guaranteed 1st or something decent like 2nd + Raty + Suter/Soucy and Flames might even retain some on Tanev. VAN should keep Cole as Depth for the Playoffs

Why would the Avs do that? Trade a younger, cheaper player at the same position who has a higher ceiling PLUS a potential solution to their perennial 2C problem? That makes no sense at all from the Avs perspective.

Hanifin is a great player, but one could make a good argument that Girard, given his reasonable contract for the next three years, is more valuable than Hanifin straight up. I don't think the Avs would make the move even one for one.

To Win another Cup presumably. Not sure why you think Byram has a higher ceiling. Hanifin is a 40+ Point Per Season Elite Skater and is better overall now while they’re still Cup Contenders. Byram’s gonna want a nice raise too

No way. Flames don’t want Girard, who the Avs have been trying to unload for years now. He’s decent offensively but nowhere near the complete player Hanifin is and his contract isn’t considered good

Because Byram is a lot younger than Hanifin and could easily reach the 40+ point threshold. The Avs aren't trading Byram for a rental; that's just terrible asset management.

You are 100% wrong about the Avs trading Girard; they have never, EVER even once put him on the market. In fact, they've said the opposite. Everything that has ever been said about trading Girard has been media and fan generated rumors. YOU may not like his contract but he's a lot better player than you're giving him credit for and a top-4 D with that contract is a valuable commodity.

You obviously don't pay enough attention to the Avs, because pretty much everything you say here is wrong.

Hanifin just turned 27 which is a young for a Defensemen and he’s in his Peak Prime. Byram is years away and has only played 43 games in a season

Girards just okay. He’s not a player the flames would be interested in and yes, I’ve seen trade rumors surround him for years

Girards often a Healthy Scratch. He’s only played in 30 Games this season…. COL would love to move him if they could, they just haven’t been offered or received the value they want for him

Byram played the most 5v5 minutes in a SCF; he'll be just fine

You can think whatever you want of Girard; the fact that he plays top four minutes on a top team speaks volumes. And anyone can write anything and post it on the internet; doesn't make it true. The Avs have openly said they haven't shopped Girard and they aren't interested in trading him. If they were that interested - per the rumors - he'd be gone already. That isn't to say he cant't be traded at some point but the Avs are happy with him and his "compete level" which is far higher than you're giving him credit for. Bottom line, though, is that the Avs aren't trading key pieces off their team for a rental, period.

Happens all the time and they may wish to use the money around elsewhere

I don’t disagree with you, I’m just pitching, promising, discussing and supporting my position that the Flames would be far more interested in Byram over Girard in a Trade for Hanifin if the Avs were to consider Trading them for a Rental like Hanifin or thought they could Trade them both and just re-sign Hanifin long-term

Aside from his rookie seasin, Girard hasn't been a healthy scratch once in his career. You are seriously off base.

Not really. Avs have played 51 Games and Girard has played in 30 of those with no injury status updates…

Girard a Healthy Scratch

Sounds like he has some mental health and depression issues as well, which is unfortunate and not a hit against him personally, but is a hit to his reliability and ability to help the team. We have the same issue with Oliver Kylington

That absence was due to his issues. He announced he was in the PA program days later. Again, never once a healthy scratch.

Yeah, well I stand by what I said, that a) The Flames don’t want Girard and b) the Avs would like to unload him if/when possible

Vancouver isn't paying a 2nd to make a lateral move of Cole for Tanev.

If Tanev is coming, it'll be Friedman going back along with retention on Tanev (either from the Flames or another team).

I think the Canucks shoot back with Bains + c-tier prospect (Bloom/Woo/Nielsen/etc.) + Friedman + NJD 4th for Tanev @ 50%.

Ha! Play Cole at RD then lol

Either way Tanev >> Cole and VAN could definitely use another RD to bolster their defence over and above what they currently have

Nah, Cole has been the better defender so far this season. He's already been played on the right side a few times and been decent.

Chris Tanev's market value is about 4.2M

Ian Cole's market value is about 3.9M

Tanev would be an upgrade over a player like Friedman, but if the Canucks are giving up Cole, they're not adding much more. If a defenseman is being sent back the other way, it's going to be Friedman.

Flames would have zero interest in Cole or Friedman, so it’s all good, no Trade

We want either a 1st, A Prospect or 2nd + Raty or something like that. If we need to take Cap Back, we’d likely want Suter or Soucy

The reported ask from the Flames camp is a 2nd+, Raty is worth a 2nd+ on his own, he's a top-rated prospect.

You'll likely get a 2nd + c-tier prospect, or if you're retaining, a 1st + c-tier prospect
