Description
Can you PLEASE not freak out - these are just ideas.
They are 100% certain to not please you. That's what this site is allllll about.

You can counter the proposals.
Or let me know your team does not need that player: and that'll be fine.

But no need for insults or condescending remarks; there's less and less civility on here.

Cheers everybody.
And PEACE. This is just sports.

The "insiders" speak of a value hovering around a 1st round pick, which for the teams mentioned, would be between 28 and 32.

CALM DOWN PLEASE. I'm just seeing what Seravalli and Pierre Lebrun are talking about.

It's not VALUE alone; it's MARKET.

Despite the recent rumors, I do not believe that Jake Allen is a goaltender that the Kings are actively considering. His contract is too expensive and he's not enough of an upgrade over their current options.

If the Kings are going to pursue a goaltender that makes more than ~$1M, he needs to be a bonafide #1 goaltender. I don't think Allen fits the bill.

You didn't try to force an Allen to Buffalo trade, and for that I crown you King of the MTL Canadiens fans

Damn, I juuuuuuuuuust finished watching "The Legend of Taro Tsujimoto Buffalo Sabres Draft Pick 1974" (on youtube). It's such an awesome story.

And as for Allen, I do think he's still got some good veteran play in him.
With a more experienced defense in front of him, he could render good services as a back up to a team whow wants to be ready.

Thank you for the crown haha, but I am just glad that it stays relaxed and chill. Just talking hockey smile

All pretty good, I think Monahan might get a touch more after seeing the Lindholm trade, like I think a 1st gets it done but whatever team throws in a sweetener like a depth prospect or late pick is gonna be the one to get him.

I'd be happy if Pearson got us anything, but I'm not too impressed with him so I'd be surprised if there was a taker, even at 50% retained. You never know though I guess.

Value seems right for Allen, but as others already mentioned I don't think his contract is a fit there. I think Philly might make more sense.

I believe that's low on Barron, say what you will about prospect rankings but Pronman had Barron ranked right in the mix with prospects like Barlow, Lucius, and Lambert from the Jets. A good comparable would be Nils Lundqvist who was traded for a 1st + 4th last offseason, Barron should hold the value of a 1st round pick, he is 15th for total points in his draft class as a defenseman.

Edit: Honestly, selling these assets would probably be the perfect trade deadline. Couldn't really ask for more. I would consider trying to sell Savard over Barron but I'm not sure what the market would be.

Very solid points you make there. You may be right on all these.
One thing I know for sure: it's that I DON'T know the exact value-and-market for those players.

Thanks for your input!

Why is everyone trying to trade Barron? Until Mailloux prove something in the nhl, Barron is our only top 4 lock option.

Well, it's just me hehe.
I have a feeling he's not part of the Habs future plans.
But that's just a proposition; and it won't happen

We'd need to ship more salary out to fit Pearson in, since Sergachev/Cernak are scheduled to come back post ASG break and off IR. Right side defense needs more help than the forward group.

Don't hate it, but I don't think TB would be too interested too. Reasonable offer though I suppose

All really well balanced thoughts. I think those are the main three subtractions and Hughes always surprises with at least one move and I'm sort of leaning towards your thought on Barron eventually being an odd man out. Would like to see some creativity from Kent there if he goes that route.

Only thing I disagree with here is trading Barron, at all. Other than that sure seems good. The other team I've read could be interested in an Allen trade would be COL, only as a stable vet back-up to Georgiev since he's been shouldering basically the whole load of the season so far. George/Allen tandem with Francouz not an option.

If we're going to trade every puck moving defense prospect that suffers from a lack of consistency in 100 games, we will never develop our own Matheson or Petry type and forever be reliant on cast-offs and players past their best before date.
Patience with Barron.

As far as retained salary, that's the most a team can retain - 50%.
I presume the Habs could take in a 1-year cap dump to balance out the books and make it work.

There's the Barron trade for RHD.
But since it's always a bit risky to trade a young defenseman with high ceiling and former 1st round pick (think Habs with Sergachev haha), I imagine the Habs would want to send it far away, in the other conference, to lessen the fan blowback if he were to start bllossoming right away.

Thanks for your insight

Yeah, same here. Maybe package Barron with another B+ prospect at another position and get another 1st round pick somewhere.
Unlikely, but creative.

Yeah, for the right price, Allen becomes a solid backup for a contending team. Some will argue that the second year on his term is a burden, and that's fair. Not sure Habs want to retain for 2 years though.

And I am not shocked at all about the mixed reviews on the Barron trade. Like you said, trading Barron plain and simple, is a divisive move. Not everyone is on board. Some see him as a core piece of the future D, some see him as transient. I tend to fall on the latter part, but that's purely based on the games I've watched. I'd say I watch about 25% of the games, and his defensive lapses have stood out for me. Maybe those games were not a proper measuring stick for him.

Thank you for your input!

Great point there.
Glad I'm not the GM hehe.

There are so many factors in evaluating progress curve as well, some that we can't really see.
Even 'off ice' stuff - look at Carter Hart now.....
Are they surrounded by toxic family -- Galchenyuk, 3rd overall.
Do they have the perfect support system -- Suzuki, 13th overall.

Thanks for your input, and yes, patience is key.

(The Barron trade proposal I wrote there is by far the one I'd be the most surprised happening)

Whatever you say, I'd give you a cheer for your profile pick !

It seems that the Barron trade is the one I proposed that is raising some eyebrows the most.
Habs are doing everyone a huge service by not hiring me as GM, and will most likely preach a bit more patience with him.

But yeah, if it was me, I'd do those trades.

Some may argue he's still worth a late 1st.

Thank you for your input!
