Anaheim is probably looking for Clarke and a 2024 second for Henrique, but you don't have one, and Vukojevic and the third aren't an acceptable substitute for the 2024 second because the Ducks have no need for a LhD prospect.

We'd want a 24 2nd and a prospect for Henrique, why are we accepting a downgrade on that to add a LHD we don't have room for?

Feels like a slightly high price for Tanev, but I like both of these ideas conceptually. I'd maybe want to see some additional depth scoring come in. Or maybe Bahl, a conditional 1st (if we don't reach the conference finals it's a 1st this year-top 5 lottery protected-, if we do it's a 1st next year since this year's conveys to the Sharks) and a 2nd for Tanev and Markstrom (with a little retained - maybe a million).

I think getting Henrique to fill McLeod's minutes once Jack gets back, getting Tanev, as a high class rental, and taking a swing at the goalie for the Cup-contender team (likely next year) makes sense.

I would love a short term (2 year, around 4 AAV) extension with Tanev to get us through the next few years.

Long-term I see the D shaking out like:

Hamilton Siegs
Luke Marino
Tanev Nemec

with Casey eventually pairing well with Nemec I think as he grows into his own.

For what it's worth I think Miller has been extremely good in 3rd pair minutes and I would be thrilled to trade Bahl in the goalie upgrade package and just extend Miller short term as a 6th/7th D.

Something that ANA fans haven't noted is that Henrique has a NTC. Let's just say it came down to COL, NYR, and NJD who made offers for Henrique. For argument's sake, let's say COL and NYR offer a 2024 2nd straight up and the Devils make this offer I listed above. The offers don't differ by that much, and if Henrique had his choice, he'd likely end up back in NJ to finish off his career. He loved Jersey and the fans adore him

What you want and what you get are two separate things. I think it's fine to quibble about who the second prospect is (I don't think Vukojevic is anything but maybe a Topias Vilen or Ethan Edwards is slightly more intriguing), but a 3rd rounder and a B prospect is a reasonable price for the kind of rental Henrique represents.

Also I think the Devils are the rare team that doesn't need to do retention either on him. but that's another question. They already have big salary outlays this season and probably wouldn't be squeamish about taking on a few million more that the Ducks are probably happy not to have to pay.

Agree its a bit much for Tanev...and I think Hanifin fits better.

But Markstrom is an immediate dead end has they are not even considering any trades for him.

Hanifin is gonna cost at least a 1st and I'm not interested in paying him 7-7.5 per on an extension. He should be getting same deal as Weegar and Severson

The Flames would be pretty silly not to consider trades for Markstrom IMO. They're not going to contend in the West in the 3 years remaining on his contract. Why have a goalie making you better (but not good enough to make the playoffs) so that you miss out on top lottery odds. You want your goalie to be as bad as possible. It's the same issue the devils had with the last 3 years of healthy Schneider.

You don't have to extend him at all. He's under contract for 6ish mill for the next 3 years. That's your cup window while Nemec/Hughes/Hischier are all cheap. He's likely to be the best goalie you can acquire for this 3 year window.

Oh you were referring to Hanifin. Yeah I don't think Hanifin makes any sense for the Devils with the cost of Nemec and Hughes scheduled to rise considerably in the next 3 years.

You have to remember that Hughes is due for an extension on July 1 that will kick in not next year, but the year after (2025-2026) that will pay him north of 8 million a season, a la Owen Power. Nemec's ELC is burned later, but he's still going to get about that on July 1 2026, which will kick in during the 2027-2028 season. The window is winning at least one cup before Nemec costs them 8+ million (2026-2027)

Henrique has a 10-team no-trade clause and it's highly doubtful that Colorado and the Rangers are on it.

I think that is what he would get.

Trade -- 1st and 3rd
Extension -- 6.5m x 7-8 years

1st would be top-10 protected and probably not better than #19-20 (otherwise it doesn't get dealt).
Contract right around Severson, Weegar, Lindholm, etc...

I think question is how far would Bahl go in that deal....would they take Bahl + 2nd for Hanifin at full AAV?

If we are renting it should not be at these prices, and if we're are looking to be ling term adds, add more

Sweeten the rental price (assuming) for Tanev and send this to Pitt for Petterson

Honestly I think Tanev is a much better fit than Hanafin. They actually have cap space for him moving forward and they don't need another Offensive Defensemen on the roster or in the system between Hamilton, Hughes, Nemec, and Casey. That's 4 spots earmarked for OFD and only 2 spots for DFD when the whole point of the position is to be Defensive and Offense is important but its really more of a bonus from these guys. Tanev is a beast on Defense which the team needs and he plays physical which the team also needs.

Tanev is a depth defenseman, you will never get that kind of price so you should adjust your expectations accordingly. You'll end up somewhere around a 2nd or 3rd and a B/C prospect.
