The St. Louis deal is a joke. Kuntar looks like a potential 3rd or 4th liner. I wouldn’t trade him for Torey Krug fully retained, but we aren’t talking about an older player. He has value, but not even remotely close to this.

Hanifin, with his current contract situation, is likely worth a 1st and 3rd without retention.

What % of 3rd rounders play a consistent role in the NHL. They are flyers and I’d argue that Merkulov with his production at the AHL level as well as talent displayed is likely a better probability to hit that role than most third rounders selected in the last two drafts. Probably better than a lot of your 2nd rounders. I’ve watched Calgary’s AHL team and he probably is better suited to play than many of their prospect pool.

My guess is Grz is involved to lower the retained amount that Calgary keeps and they’d flip him with teams always needing some d help. I’d rather keep him as depth for the run, but cap position isn’t there. That’s going to be any trade with the current cap position around the league. I’d rather give up Forbort instead
