If you want a clear example in recent events of a forward with more or less production than Monahan (28 pts in 45 games) that went for a 1st plus with conditions. Andrew Copp (35 pts in 56 games)

Now consider that Copp comes with a whole bucket of extras. He's a defensive minded player, can play in any situation, etc, etc, etc.

Yeah so he gets a copp lite return a 1st with the same conditions (50% of games and win 2 playoff rounds) a prospect and a pick swap. Copp is better defensively compared to Monahan better pk and 5v5 metrics which is why no extra 2nd.

I completely agree Monahan could get
2nd (win 2 rounds and plays 50% of games)
Decent prospect (not an elite prospect look at Morgan barron as a reference)
Pick swap of a 6th into a 5th

I just revisited the return price and I was shocked. Wow! Its incredible for anyone to think Monahan cant go for just a late 1st when Copp and a 6th returned a 1st, a 2nd, 5th and Morgan Barron return.

Add to that Copp had no retention and 3.6M AAV. Checkmate.

Monahan is injury prone and a below average skater. Not a guy I would add to my playoff roster if I was a gm. Especially for a first rounder.

When you say things like "checkmate" to support your argument you've already lost the argument.

But you already lost it when you said Monahan will get a 1st.

As someone said earlier, "Good luck."

"Wow, this much better all around player with a hard nosed gritty game went for way too much, so this completely different player in every way is surely justified a 1st" is a fun way to look at things i guess

In what world? This is a meaningless platitude after I was given 'facts' much like you saying I already lost an argument to circumstances that dont exist in real time
You are just perpetuating the lack of honest arguments.

Andrew Copp is the perfect comparison. I'm not even the biggest Jfresh fan but Copp and Monahan actually had the same defence according to JFresh Hockey. They were having a similar offensive and defensive season. That isnt a meaningless platitude with a lack of nuance but actual hypothesis. See the difference?

Monahan Analytics are quite poor besides stating face offs, pp production he won't have pp1 and scarcity why he's worth a 1st?

There is a more recent JFresh card and it’s worse

Novak would get more than a 2nd cmon now. That contract and you have the Tanner Jeannot, Brandon Hagel examples. Contenders will bend over backwards for that small AAV which also makes Monahan very valuable at retention with an under 1m cap hit.

Add to that most of those centers arent available atm including Novak when the Preds are in a playoff push.

Brandon hagel was a productive 22 year old RFA with 3 years at 1.5 million AND RFA control. There is no comp there.

Jeannot was again an RFA. And a bad move

It's because almost NOBODY here understand MARKET VALUE.
They just see the player and are dumb blind to supply-and--demand.

Only Habs-haters wanted to force their opinion by wishing the Habs would not get a 1st, when everyone knew they would, including 100% of actual UNBIASED experts.

Habs haters looked stupid again here.

Or Winnipeg made a bad trade and this is guaranteed to backfire spectacularly. Im very amused that you seem to think Winnipeg making bad trades is some sort of own, but hey, life is easy when you can just chalk up the wins and ignore the dozen other 1st rounder fails habs fans have demanded round here

You have stated non stop that Monahan wasn't worth a 1st.
Only Hab haters say that - everyone who was able to be level headed and look at market value KNEW he was worth a 1st.
Obviously, no humility from you; you're not going to say "I was wrong", but you were.

All hockey experts knew.

Habs fans only said he was worth a 1st.
He returned a 1st.

That's all.

Yeah, and im still right. He isnt worth a 1st.
Cost isnt value, that's why there are bad trades and good ones. The jets got clocked here, unless you think foligno was worth a 1st, or that pile of garden waste was worth joe thornton.
Habs fans have the hardest time with what value is, i swear

Yes and you're still right?

Wow.

MARKET VALUE.
MARKET VALUE.

It's not just value; it's supply, demand, trade deadline, and market for pendig UFA centers.

And yet you still take a shot at Habs fans, who were right. And you were wrong.

Habs fans said he would fetch a 1st. And he did.
So they were right.
You said he would not fetch a 1st, and he did. You were wrong.

No one was talking about your gut instaint as "value in a vacuum".
Everyone is talking about MARKET value.

you were wrong.
Period.

And you can't deal with that.

Lol, i literally said many times that he is not worth a 1st but teams make bad trades all the time, so yay you found a sucker.
But if it makes you feel better you can pretend that monahan is worth this, instead of just enjoying the win

Value is relative to the market. In Monahan's case you need to first examine how many better centers are out there and available. Lindholm is obviously the best in show. He will get a 1st +. Then you have a load of guys behind him, in the Monahan area, who might get moved. Monahan, Novak, Wennberg, Henrique. That glut of competition isn't good for the Habs and Monahan, it will drive the price down. Why trade a 1st for Monahan when I could trade a 2nd for Novak? Will 3 teams all trade 1sts for centers? That would be a very rare occurrence.

Victory lapping for a late 1st and a (ambitious) Stanley cup conditional 3rd. There is basically no difference between a late first and a 2nd + prospects.

I hope this victory gets you through the rest of the year.
