That would be a horrible trade for Washington to give up their top prospect and a mid to high first round pick for a 29 year defenseman.

Yeah, I agree that Leonard and their first round pick has high value but I mean, Matheson is really good and it's his value. You aren't getting Leanord or that 1st from Washington. They would make a deal around something else, or they just go shopping from the plethora of LHD available. Matheson is good, Montreal definitely won that trade, but he doesn't have close to that kind of value. A late first from a playoff team, sure. That could probably work if there is a need on that team. Most teams are pretty set on LD but there are still a few he could benefit.
Chytill is injured, he might have played his last game as his concussion issues seem pretty serious. Also, he wasn't struggling before he got hurt.
That is not a package Anaheim would be looking for in a Zegras trade. Probably target another high end forward, don't see picks being the main piece coming back.

Well I think Savard is going to be in Winnipeg top 4. In my opinion, he is better than Schmidt, Stanley and Demelo. Arguably better than Dillon. About his contract, I think it's fair for what he does. Schmidt and Dillon has bigger contract...

Well in the last years, he put a respectable 40 points but that's all. I think he might produce more in another team.

IF we are going to trade Trevor Zegras (and I won't believe it until I see it), it will only be for (1) a top-6 RW or top-4 RhD prospect or player, and (2) an early 2024 first with limited protection or a presumably early 2025 first without protection. Given the state of the Montreal roster and our need to replace someone who is a high-quality forward now, I can see David Reinbacher and your own first (top 5 protected) for Zegras, but obviously Habs fans will differ on the quality of the actual player. In my opinion, if an unsigned and as-yet-unproven-in-the-NHL prospect like Cutter Gauthier can return an established top-4 RhD (who was selected sixth overall) and a presumably high second, then a proven top-6 forward (with two 60-point seasons in his first two campaigns which are almost identical to Nick Suzuki's third and fourth seasons) should get an equivalent player or prospect plus a high first.

What do you think Matheson for Leonard or Matheson for the 2024 1st round pick? Is it fair?
I didn't it was that serious for Chytil, I think he was injured for couple months but not for the rest of his career.

He notch 45 points in 74 games last year as a 23 year old playing 3C. Why would the Rangers give up on that?

Chytil has past concussion history; he might be out for the season. Could be a career thing, very hard to say.
Just don't see Washington having that much interest in Matheson to move either of those pieces.

I don't mind Savard but he's 33 and I'm not sure where he fits on the Jets defense, unless they dump Schmidt which seems unlikely there isn't really a spot for Savard. Should be noted that Schmidt is playing quite well lately too, he's overpaid for a 3rd pair dman but he and Samberg are a great 3rd pair that can handle top 4 work when needed.

Also just don't see Montreal trading Savard, he's a local and a veteran presence on a rebuilding team, if anything he might get traded in his UFA year to a contender for depth and resign a with the Habs for a couple more years.

If the Jets trade the Habs 2nd I hope it's better invested into something, would almost rather they stand pat.

Zegras only moves for a blue chip piece. Reinbacher and MTLs 25 2nd for Zegras and a 6th would do, of we can look at a trade involving Slafkovsky. Unless one of those two pieces are involved, no Zegras.

Just an aside, but why do people insist on tinkering with Winnipeg's defense? The Jets are the only team in the League with fewer than 100 goals against in the first 41 games (unless Los Angeles gets two shutouts from their next three games, at Detroit and then back-to-back at Carolina and Dallas -- fat chance). And even then, the Jets would still have the #1 defense in the League.

Most posters don’t do any form of research into other teams before posting trades.. so they have no idea what the other teams needs are… it’s just, I want to get rid of this player so I’ll trade him there…
Jets only needs are 2C and RHD depth, in that order, but the majority of trade proposals are for LHD and LHW

Bear in mind if a player is having an off year it doesn't always mean a trade. It could be an injury for example. In Chytil's case think there is almost no chance that he gets moved, and especially for that package.

Okay, I don’t think you understand just how incredibly off this trade is. The caps do not need a defenseman, and the aren’t moving a lottery pick and their top prospect who went 8 overall last draft and is lighting up the NCAA. He’s untouchable. Mike Matheson doesn’t even get close to moving that needle to incentivize the caps to make this trade. Like, not even in the same solar system. That’s how far off it is.

There isn’t a trade to be made here. The caps do not need a defenseman.

You're wrong that a defense prospect without a game in the NHL has more value than Zegras (remember 5th overall selection Olli Juolevi?), but let's leave Reinbacher out of this. Slavkovsky's first two seasons: 80 games, 25 points. Zegras' first two seasons: 90 games, 74 points. And I'd be willing to bet that despite this injury-plagued season, Zegras will end this year with more points than Slavkovsky records in HIS first four seasons (unless his productivity makes about a 100% increase).
