Habs paid 13OA + for Dach, who's development was mishandled in Chicago, AND had serious injury history in the hopes that he would become a 2C. He's not only not developing into a C, he's missed most of his time on the habs roster due to injuries.
Zegras on the other hand hasn't been mishandled, and has been mostly healthy his career save for the minor injury this season. He's not a distressed asset, so it'll cost a lot more to acquire.
Quite an affirmation since Francis, the person in the best situation to evaluate him, has so much doubts about him he didn't want to sign him long term (and would want to part ways with him). If his own GM has doubt about his value, it is normal other GMs will think the same.
If he's not a distressed asset, Francis will keep him. If he's trading him away, of course there's something wrong motivating him to do so. You can't have both.
IMO, his value is under Gauthier, since his ELC years are passed and his track record isn't up to his potential. Dach's return is pretty on point. (CHI wanted a top 1o pick, but KH was only able to get 13th for Romanov. I don't see much difference in value between 8th to 15th issh)
I'm not expecting you to agree, but I'm done with ANA fans thinking Zegras is worth 3x1st (not saying you are one of them).
