Yeah. I was wondering the same thing. I know Trotz did say he wanted to bring some exciting players, but sending one of those out to bring one in is counterproductive. Especially one they have on such a good contract for one that is looking for a huge payday.

Good luck with that rumored Willy extension. Insane to me how this is his 2nd year at a ppg or better pace in his career and he’s never hit 90 plus points and they’re gonna give him $11 mil.

I wouldn't give up Forsberg for Nylander. But if NSH can get Willy to sign for less(like 9.5-10 mil, cuz Tennessee doesn't have income tax), I'd offer Lauzon, Barrie, Glass, a '25 top 10 protected 1st and our lowest '24 2nd. Maybe to some Leafs fans, it's a crap offer but better than Nylander walking IMO.

Gee, they might be equal value at 8.5m and 11m Nylander. IMO Nylander is the better player, and doesn't have a history of injuries.
I don't understand all this angst folks have with signing or trading Nylander. Obviously the Leafs are going to keep him for a Cup run this season. If the Leafs don't sign Nylander (like any other UFA) the Leafs will just spend that $$$$ allotted to him on other player(s)
Seems so many CF followers think the Leafs (and only the Leafs) have to either sign their upcoming UFAs or trade their upcoming UFAs.

Crazy f’n world we live in isn’t it. Toronto is trying to re write hockey. If we pay 4 Forwards more than half of the salary that’s allotted for a 23 man roster, sounds like a recipe for success.🤦‍♂️

You may be right but if they want to be the only team that has 4 F over 10M+ and think that’s a recipe for success? Gonna be good golfers.

The Leafs don't have to do anything, but if they don't sign or trade him, that means one of our most valuable players walks for nothing; that is simply poor asset management, so it's not as if you're on the side of logic here. I'll also say that even if they knew they weren't going to be able to sign him after this year, they'd still be better off to keep him as an own rental rather than trading him for futures, given their current window. This is not a trade for futures, it's a trade for a player who would be a 1st line winger this year and beyond.

Of course Nylander is the better player, that's not really a matter of opinion. The question is whether the ~3 mil in additional cap would outweigh the difference between Forsberg and Nylander, and I believe it would, given that our greatest need is at defense, especially beyond this year.

I agree 100% that some thing has to give and unfortunately that POS president has backed himself in a corner again trying this plan that no other team in NHL history has done yet this moron thinks is the way to a cup?
Shanahan has to be fired then Keefe.
Then watch how a sane president that has NHL experience would move what ever he could as fast as he could.
There is no one else we CAN move now NMC means Tavares and Marner can not be traded and moving Matthews would be the stupidest move possible so what else can you do but trade 1 of the core 4 and it has to be Nylander.
He also holds the most vlaue out of Marner and Tavares anyways so if you want to see TML lose in 1st round again then keep Nylander and just run it back liek we have for 5 years because that works!
This would not be the trade though Forsberg has NEVER had a full season ever no ty.

No, I don't think you're on the side of logic. I don't what it about so many Leafs fans.....Leafs sign Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, Jarnkrok, Samsonov, Jones, Benoit and others as UFAs, and didn't give up anything for them but somehow the Leafs are entitled to compensation for a UFA. No, the Leafs are better, and I know it's subjective, having Nylander this season, and not having Forsberg, and have 8.5m to spend on another UFA for six seasons.
And even if the Leafs keep Nylander this year, and do not resign him. Well let's say the Leafs have 10m allotted for Nylander, well that's just 10 million for other player(s), so it's not like Leafs get nothing in return for not having Nylander next season.
