Description
What would you be willing to trade for Justin Barron? Habs have a log jam on defence, I think he could be available for a forward prospect. Looking at the recent 1st overall picks Barlow, McGroarty, Lambert, and Lucius as Montreal needs forwards in return. What would be your personal analysis on each of those forward prospects regarding their potential and trade value?

Draft picks also on the table.

Barron gives you a potential in house replacement for Pionk or Demelo if you can't resign them, also unites the bros.

Thoughts? Seems like it could fit both teams needs. This trade could be made to bolster defensive depth this season or revisited in the offseason.

Monahan also available if you are looking for more center depth.

Why would we trade Barron. He has been insane and has even started to play defensively in the last few games

It's possible the Jets could take an interest in Barron, but none of the players you mentioned would be in play for him. It would need to be a reasonable ask for the Jets to consider.

    Who would you trade?

For me Guhle, Xhekaj, and Hutson aren't available. Have to think Reinbacher is in there as well. I don't see Harris or Struble having as much value as Barron even though they are more reliable. We've also got Mailloux and Bogdan as offensive RHD that can replace Barron. Someone has to go, who would you trade and why?

A Sean Monahan/Justin Barron trade between Mtl/Wpg has crossed my thoughts many times in the past months. Now with respect to the Mtl supporters a reasonable ask & return offer by Wpg would be required to make it work. What are those numbers is the question?

Now, the Wpg fan has seen an injury prone quarterback come here and do well with that team. Now, can Monahan come here and do the same as a centre????

Close. Habs likely look at the Nils Lundqvist deal ask for that return so you're not that far off

a second would be selling low on a young RHD with a lot of offensive upside - a third is what you pay for a bottom pair RHD...

I know not everybody value habs' players the same - but at least offer market value for above-average puck moving RHD.

Windjammer is one of the worst fans on this site with his takes so I asked him just to laugh.

As I said above I think the minimum it would take would be the Nils Lundqvist deal and even then I think MTL would still wait it out before they go down that road

It's more that he doesn't fill a need for the Jets, hence the lower offer. If you want a higher price, offer him to a team that needs him or his play style, the Jets don't have that need.

I could see him getting a 2nd from someone that needs him.

Lundqvist went for a 1st and 4th, which is still quite off a 2nd as the value drops significantly outside the 1st round. Barron himself was a 1st round pick and he's has done well (I think he's slightly ahead of Lundqvist in development being younger, but that's debatable).

Fair enough - I can understand that.

but even for a second, we would hang on to the guy. 2nd rounders have less than 25% of making the NHL. I rather see where Barron ends-up.

That's exactly what I would expect Montreal to do. Most fans here think trades take place in a vacuum where only the player's true perceived value matters. Unfortunately, that isn't a realistic take, which upsets a lot of the less knowledgeable fans here, team needs and fit are far more important than perceived value.

Then, your time is better invested in explaining the Jets's need and surplus - each time you educate a fan from another fan base - you reduce the amount of garbage AGM going your way ahahha.

Saying a relative trade value only creates unecessary conflict

I said in my 1st and 2nd posts that Barron isn't a need for the Jets, hence the lower offer, trying to highlight that information. Some posters just refuse to read or at least comprehend that.

Glad we dodged that one, yikes I don't know what LA was thinking. It was a great trade for the Jets at the time and it is looking even better with Dubois struggling.

We will have to agree to disagree. I have Xhekaj in over Barron, here's what Laval's coach had to say regarding Xhekaj from an article by Arpon today:

“The kid has upside for an undrafted kid, it’s incredible he slipped through the cracks. It’s really tough to understand,” Houle said. “He has some really nice offensive qualities. His wrist shot is elite, and for a big man, he can move. The Canadiens got lucky. That kid’s a first-rounder, so it’s like having a first-round pick fall in your lap. We had (Justin) Barron here, and he’s just as good as Barron, who was a first-round pick. I think he might even have more offensive skill than Barron. For me, when you look at them when they were both here, wow, this kid (Xhekaj) can be special.”

I'm not even sure who the best option is to trade, I guess it's a good problem to have but Gorton / Hughes have a difficult decision ahead.
