He really wouldn't, outside of the late 1st and late 3rd, there is not much of value in the package. An undersized winger (whomever we have too many of already) and a 25 yo D man struggling on his 3rd team in 6 years and would be behind Barron, Kovacevic and even Lindstrom, Hughes would yell you to keep your players and up the 3rd to a 2nd

It's a fair ask if you know how the market is looking ( it's weak and and not deep) and if you know our situation. hughes is already one of the best gms in the league, im sure he could get the maximum out of every player.

i mean for a 1st and a 3rd we honestly do it @campabee. i understand savard is very good for the young guys and he's from here but with the rookies pushing the lineup, we really need to consider it. he's aging but still playing like he was in CBJ. He doesn't fit our window. Having the chance to add a 1st will be HUGE for us. We could ask Kovacevic to fill his role because he's honestly playing/acting like a veteran even though he isn't one. Let me know what you think about this one!

The value is definitely there but the peices aren't the right fit. Habs are trying to get bigger with speed and skill up front, the polar opposite of Ovchinnikov and Timmons wouldn't likely be a target for Hughes with Barron, Kovacevic, Reinbacher and Mailloux all as better options. Sure the 1st might be in the top 20 but it is more likely to be 20-30th. I think Hughes would ask for a 2nd instead of including all the other unnecessary peices

Montreal can't really afford to move Savard. They need him as a stabilizing veteran on the back end, especially as a RHD.
The "absurdity" of a trade value for him should reflect that.

A middling prospect and/or pick package isn't worth enough to sidetrack development and development gets tougher for everyone without Savard in the lineup.

Montreal probably only listens if an offer starts with a 1st+.
Doesn't mean Savard is worth that much, it just means he's worth more to Montreal than to 'X' team if they aren't willing to put that offer forward.

This offer is heavy and might work, but only the 1st is of any real consequence. Montreal would immediately be in the market for another veteran RHD and that switch may not be worth the price they would have to pay or the hassle.

There's relative value at play here, not just market value.

we take the 1st eitherway. not settling for a 2nd. if this is the offer, he's staying. Just don't resign Timmins and Ovchinnikov when their deal ends.

I already said at the beginning that his value was about a 1st and 3rd. My point was that if this is the offer and the Leafs wanted to overpay to ensure they got him then Hughes wouldn't want the peices offered he would just want the deal simplified to be a 1st + 2nd Ovchinnikov and Timmons don't offer a whole lot of value to the Habs so why take them + a 3rd instead of combining all their values and just taking a 1st + 2nd?
