I'd drop the Wild trade all together Minnesota doesn't even consider that.

Why is everyone trading Reinbacher?! The kid is exactly what we need, a potential top pairing RHD with elite upside.

That second Islanders deal is a no-go. Pageau has more or less been a solid 40-point 3C who wins tons of faceoffs and has collected Selke votes in the very recent past. He's 31 and has 2 more years left at $5M after this season.

Anderson is about a year and a half younger but has an extra year of term on his deal at a higher AAV (3x$5.5M). He's been less productive on offense and well...there's not a whole lot of nice things you can say about his defensive game. I can't see a reason for the Islanders to make this swap without a significant asset coming back with Anderson - and I don't see a reason for Montreal to pay to dump his salary at this point, either.

You are about the only one on this thread that thinks that, not sure what you have against Reinbacher. He plays 20+ minutes a night and has carried his weak a** team into the NL. The kid is phenomenal, sure I would like to see his offensive game develop a bit more but his game is really, really well rounded for a 19 yo playing in a professional league. I get you are a bit butt hurt cause the Habs didn't select the guy you thought they should have but our D corps in 2 years has the potential to be top 5 in the league with the likes or Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson, Engstrom, Struble, Xhekaj, Barron and Mailloux all looking to be top 4 Dmen at the NHL level. How many other teams would have potentially 8 top 4 NHL D men under 25 with guys like Reinbacher and Guhle leading the charge?! Forwards are much easier to find in the draft or via trade, that's why there is the old adage in hockey that championship teams build from the net out not center in. We have Dach, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield up front, plus we still have 3 1st round picks over the next 2 drafts so finding another scoring winger won't be too hard.

Agree with you that it’s ill advised to trade a top 5 pick before he’s even had a look in the NHL. By most accounts, Reinbacher might have some upside limitations but has a really high floor. That type of guy is super valuable.

The rest here feels optimistic. Habs will have struck gold if half of those guys turn into legit NHL options, let alone top 4 ones.

Guhle, Struble, Xhekaj, Barron are already legit NHL D men, so I would say we already hit gold by your account. Hutson is out pacing top NHL D men who previously went the NCAA route and I am talking future Hall of Fame guys like Makar, Hughes and Fox. Engstrom and Reinbacher are already playing big roles on their respective pro teams, hence the statement "all looking to be top 4 Dmen at the NHL level I guess the exception would be Mailloux who has struggled in Laval but is still just a rookie in that league.

Yeah, exactly! Montreal has a lot of prospects and some have played NHL games already which is more than most pools can say.

Guhle and Reinbacher have top 4 upside, don’t think you can find many to argue against that.

I am a historically a huge Barron fan but I am curious to see if he sticks as a meaningful second pair guy in a good team.

Struble has played like, 15 games? He’s adjusted quicker than most have anticipated but is still playing pretty sheltered minutes. I’d hold my horses on that one.

I don’t think any realistic person will contend that Xhekaj even has a top 4 ceiling.

It’s great that Hutson is playing in the NCAA where he can bulk up, probably the best league for him. Even small NHL defensemen have like 20-30 lbs on the guy. I’m curious to watch that transition.
